I'm in the process of a body off restoration on a 68 coupe and concurrently having a 427/435 built for it. I'm not sure what stlye to go with because of the hood clearance issues. The hood is a BB hood however not the L88. I purchased a set of aluminum GM bowtie heads with oval ports. Edlebrock has Torker however the rpm range starts at 2500. Has anyone installed the Edlebrock RPM air gap and if so any hood modifcations? My restoration plan is to maintain an original look for the exterior.

I would count my word as gold... The standard Performer RPM manifold looks exactly like the L88 manifold... So I am going to guess you'll need the L88 hood for that. If I were you, I would probably go for the torker II.

I just installed a Torker II and it runs great. I havent tried to install my stock hood though. 427/390..

I believe the stock, Tri Power or Torker manifolds are your only choices with oval ports and the stock BB hood

Thank you all for the tips. I need to meet with the engine builder and make the final decision. Personally the torker it appears to be the best fit considering the alternatives

I'm in exactly the same boat here. Did you make a decision? I'm still on the fence. Should I go with the Torker II which should give me more consistent performance... or stick with the 3x2 stock setup which, if I could get them working right, would bring the best performance. Thoughts?

I was advised to stay away with multi carb system because of set up and maintenance. I was initally looking at the edlebrock package with the 2 carbs. More then likely a 750 will go in.

The torker 2 will fit fine but remember it's a single plane intake so you'll lose some bottom end with it, especially noticeable if your going to run something below a 3:36 gear. The 435hp cam is pretty big to begin with so i doubt it did much below 2k anyway, so a torker 2 will be fine as long as you have a 3:36 or better rear end and a 4spd. Other then the torker 2 there isn't much that will fit under the stock big block hood and be able to feed the rest of a 435 hp engine. If you go to an L-88 or other aftermarket hood your options become considerably greater but hood clearance with a lot of them is still in issue and needs to be checked.
