I stopped and looked at a 74 the other day in a dealer's lot on consignment, the guy wanted $22k...WHAT? Sure it was in good shape as is yours, but c'mon!

For 10 grand? i'll take it . . . .and give me 6 more just like it!!! C'mon, get real!

a friend of mine sold his 75 vert at bloomington this year for 17,000. your car looks nicer than his but yours is a 74. seems like in all generations of corvette the year that ends in 4 brings the least amount of money. c-1 1954, c-2 1964, c-3 1974, c-4 1984 ... is it just me or does this seem like the deal. i would guess that 74 vert will bring mid to high teens. its not a strong color and its a 74. other than that its looks like a real nice car. i have 2 c-3's but they are both double bumper cars. another factor going against you is the car market has just had an adjustment. they are down about 20%. its a buyers market now. thats why i bought my 1970 lt-1 vert and my 72 ac vert. good luck

I sorta agree on the color not being "strong" from a resale point of view. Similar to what you said,
1. Red
2. Black
3. White
4. Silver
5. Yellow
then, blues, greens; then orange, brown, beige...

While there are a few cosmetic items that look incorrect on your '74, it's still an L-82 4 speed convertible in a good color combination. It would not take that many $$$ to make this a big $$$ car. Just try to find another one like it.

Compare this:

My '75 L-48 4 speed convertible, loaded, both tops. New paint, complete interior, top, all new suspension, complete new A/C system, 300hp GM crate motor, etc, etc. Every switch, button, light and option worked as new. I sold it in June in one day for $25,000.

Best,
Greg

When did yellow cars become stronger sellers than blue? And I don't see how Black could be a strong seller, since many years black wasn't even availible.

I strongly agree with this.

Traditionally, red, blue and black are the colors most people choose when repainting/color changing their cars. Especially performance cars.

I think I've owned just about every color Corvette there is, and when it comes time to let one go, I can usually sell a nice Nassau Blue Corvette much faster than a Corvette Yellow car.

Best,
Greg

In the August 2007 issue of corvette enthusiast the listing for a 1974 L-82 convertible is $10,625 for fair condition, 19,000 for good condition, and 33,225 for excellent condition. The car is probably worth mid-range between the fair and good condition, so probably $15000. Kathy

since they started selling c3's. i have no problem with blue cars, they just dont bring the kind of money that red and black and white cars bring. thats just the way it is.

dont get to caught up in what a book says a car is worth. they dont buy or sell cars. thats just an average of what some have sold for in the past. market conditions change. if your car has just been restored, frame off and has just been judged ncrs top flight and or bloomington gold and is the best color combo, it will bring the higher numbers in the book (clean book). these cars bring the numbers higher in the books. if you have one that has been wrecked and poorly repaired, bad color, wrong equipment, motor, trans and stuff like that, just a beater of a corvette needing everything, those cars will not bring the low number in the book and bring the average down(rough book). most cars fall in the middle of these two extremes. the book really does not determin what a car is worth, it just gives you an idea of what others like it have sold for. its just a tool. also what were the market conditions like when the high priced cars sold and what was it like when the low cars sold? what is the market like now? the only question i can answer is the market today is down 20% from what it was last year on an average car. it will come back up but only time will tell when. bottom line a car is worth what ever someone will give you for it. if you need 25k for it , ask 25k for it. maybe it will bring it maybe it wont. no matter what color or contition someone some where is looking for just that. "there is an *** for every seat" thats what i have always been told.

a not popular color does not mean every one hates it so its worth less. it just means more people prefer other colors like red so its easier to sell for a higher price. to a guy looking for a blue car, he will pay a higher price for a blue one. same for a red or white or black car. depends on what someone wants. there are only so many buyers looking for a particular car at a particular time. so if you have a more popular color, like red, you have a better chance of selling for a higher price. thats all popular color means. does that make sence? hope this helps.

in my opinion your car is worth mid to high teens, maybe 20 to a guy looking for a blue one.

Dont listen to quotes from Corvette Enthusiast. Their numbers are all over the map and not close to reality. Those numbers only serve to mislead people not familiar with the market.

However, the quotes you have received in this thread of $10-12k are way low. It is true that '74 and '75 cars have not caught on at all, but they become attractive entry level cars as coupes. '74 roadsters on the other hand, with numbers matching, well-optioned and L82, are much better cars than that range.

I also agree that as nice as the car might be, it will get beat up when compared to comparable bumper car range. That would put the car in a range of $15k-$18k, obviously without the benefit of properly examining the car and making proper adjustments.

well, it sure is a nice looker

based solely on the pictures

I would pay between 12 and 16
I would also hold off selling until March

but it's a cutie for sure! The removable hardtop would clinch it for me.

Here is one

Also was one last week for $11,000! Looked good but I was moving and had no time to see it. It didn't last long.
