Me and a buddy did an old Bronco once. It had all an custom tube front clip and a custom hood. The Bronco finished before the hood did so we were both driving without a hood for a few weeks.

We got pulled over three times and warned twice. The last officer was the only one who seemed to know why and he said for safety reasons. If a fluid were to start squirting out or a belt or a part were to fail it could fly out directly harming either us or other drivers, and that the hood is also there to keep that stuff in in case of an accident. I could see his point even though he was a douch about it.
