My suggestion would be to replace it. It's not that expensive and can really spruce up your interior. The other option would be to dye it, but I understand this will stiffen the pile.

I replace the original carpet in my 1973 in '90 with carpet from that well known vendor in Florida. Within a couple of years the passenger side carpet was faded terribly. Much worse than the drivers side. I don't recall the brand of carpet now, just where I purchased it.
I was tempted to try dying it as it was still in excellent condition, but just replaced it while doing a frame-off a few years back. For the cost of new it was not worth trying to dye it and hope that it matched the rest of the carpet.
Good luck... GUSTO

On my 70 with loop carpet I used a can of $6 spray dye - that was
about 5 years ago and it still looks great. The secret is get it real
clean first before you spray. In fact, for the price do this first then if
you don't like it go for new carpet.

My carpet is black as well. Replaced it and shot the seats with spray dye....made a hugh difference.
Changing the carpet takes some time but its not hard.
Good luck,
Doug
