Any own or have experience with this carburetor?
I am debating having my Q-jet rebuilt for $275.00 or research buying a new carburetor. http://www.holley.com/applications/C...ector/0-80555C.
Summit wants $360.00 for this one is is supposed to a direct bolt on. Any opinions or advise would be great.
Thanks.

Holley has made the spread-bore replacement for years. It's been around the block lots of times.
Personally, I'll rebuild my original Q-Jets until I wear them out and keep the cost of the Holley replacement in my pocket.

If your fairly handy around the engine, rebuild it yourself. Lars sent me the preferred parts list for the rebuild kit, float and vacuum pull of. The car runs great now and I am very satisfied with having done it myself.
The trick is that you take plenty of pictures with the carb attached to the car, then as you tear it down. It was very easy to put back together. The quadrajet is an excellent carburetor.
Good luck,
Dino

I've had that one on my 79 for about 8 years now. Works good and had all the emission hookups to pass inspection. The Holley carb is what I was familiar with working on. I needed to change the main jets a little richer and played with the vac sendary springs to get it tuned to my engine. Otherwise no problems here with it.
Good luck on your decision.

rebuild the qjet.
I did my own last year using Lar's paper and it turned out great. Just don't rush and be careful.
If you insist on a new carb, I suggest the Jet stage 2.

I did rebuild it this past winter, it runs better than it did, but nowhere near as good as it can. The throttle shaft needs to be re-bushed, which I am incapable of doing myself, and the secondaries don't open up all the way either, which I heard was purposely set up that way from the factory by GM. I'd rather have Lars rebuild it and set it up correctly for me because I know it can run way better than it does now, but I thought he was on hiatus and working on his own project right now.
