As many places that sell these things,,,, you would think that maybe just 1 ended up on a Vette somewhere,,,,,

I bought one of the short scoops and it was a bad idea. Lost 1/2 my money reselling it. The Ecklers type scoop that's contoured to fit the vette would work. I got one of the flat ones and there is no way it will fit without major glass work (I made sections of my fender and new tips for my hood and I still didn't want to try and fit this L88 scoop!).

Well...I am going to try it. I received my scoop yesterday and will start working it next week.
An L88 hood for my '73 is about $600 plus shipping. This scoop was delivered for $150. If I can get it to work, I will come out ahead. If it does not work, I will get some practice with fiberglass.
I will try to post pictures as I go on my site.

After hearing horror stories about ill fitting aftermarket L-88 hoods, I ordered a generic scoop from one of the fiberglass parts vendors to mold to my stock hood.
The fit was way off, these scoops are flat whereas our hoods are not.
Long story short, sent it back and ordered one from Eklers. Their scoops are contoured to the vette hood. Just laying it on for a test fit left almost no gaps. Made for an easy install. Now this is on a '72, your milage may vary

Could one of you guys measure from the front tip of your hood to the front tip of the scoop (the high point) itself. Since I have a '73 and you have a '72, this will give me the front reference point.
For my '73, I may have to cut the scoop and entend it a bit.
Thanks

Ive seen it done, I fit one on my '75 Monte Carlo. The filler around the scoop usually winds up cracking. I'm sure it can be done in a way that will not crack, but I have seen more than a few that have cracked due to heat, and the materials that make up the final assembly.

Safety Car
J.C.Whitney carries these.I put one on a 80 454 mod car that I had.I centered it,and had the back touch the back of the hood, making sure that it was evenly placed, then measured agian.I traced the outline on the hood, then measured a half inch in,and cut the whole section out. There will be a gap,so i cut 2 matching pieces of wood to use as a filler, then screwed down,so i could turn it over, and start my glass on the backside first.Once that was roughed in,then i flipped it over, removing the screws, and glassed the front.I cut small pieces, glassed, roughed in w/grinder,then repeated the process w/a wider piece of glass, glassed it,roughed,an d used a wider piece.Because it was a long hood,i thought that the front was funky looking,so i built it up w/glass to shape it more as to the org.look of the short hoods. It was time consuming, but turned out really well.Still had to get a small air cleaner for clearance w/the 454,and aluminum intake/holley.It did change the whole appearance of the car.A good look, but it was alot of work.Start on the back side, tho',then go to the front.I've never done one on a short hood, but should be alot easier.
