Default 150,000 Miles to Much?

Thinking of buying a 1980 4 speed vette with 150,000 miles. Interior needs some help, but exterior seems to be fine. Price is $6,000.

Do you think 150,000 miles is too much?

Thank you

The miles isn't as important as the actual condition of the car. You'll need to consider that at 150K miles, there may be lots of maintenance needed IF good paint, no rust,...normal wear items like belts, hoses, fuel pump, water pump, etc. on top of an engine with 150K that will most certainly need freshened up sooner than later. Most importantly you'll need to factor in your personal financial situation. IMO, the $6K would be a great price given all of the above are to your satisfaction.

Worry more about the cars that are 25 years old with 30,000 miles on it ...as that means it sits almost all the time.

I'm sure others will chime in, but a car seems to stay healthy much longer when you're actually driving it rather than just parking it. Things seem to rot faster that way. Could be my experience ...but anytime I seem to encounter a car with unusually low mileage it turns out to be bad news.

As long as the frame is in good shape then you should be OK. What state is the car located in? If you live in a state where they use road salt, then look out!

Agree with above......my 78 has 130,000 now...but I've maintained it over past 27 years(not restored)...so look for signs of poor maintenance...cleanliness of engine compartment....condition of radiator,hoses...things that show pattern of poor upkeep, other than just worn seat covers,carpet,etc..

Not "squeaky" clean..but a reference....my L-82

My 73 has more then 150,000 miles and I would not be afraid to drive her anywhere. Of course I have done a lot of work to her over the last 12 years. It all depends on the condition of the frame and bird cage, even they can be fixed if you have the time and money.

My 76 has somewhere around 180, 000 miles on it, and i have been enjoying it as much as i can. Thankfully with a corvette, anything can be fixed the real question is the $$$

My 80 has 70k on it and Im one of the guys that has parked it for extended periods of time. I just had all new complete brakes installed, not that they were worn, as they still looked new, just because they were 26 years old. Also, new ball joints, bushings, shocks, and u-joints. Next week, the original 305 is coming out and a new crate motor is going in its place. Also, new water pump, fuel pump, Edlbrock manifold and carb, and radiator. Hopefully, I will be on the road by the end of the week, but... I am taking my time so the first person looking under the hood won't say that "Bubba" was there!
Im now planning to drive mine on my trips from Southern Oregon to Sacramento Calif (when the weather is good) to visit my Grand Daughter! after all these years, Im finally going to quit being afraid to drive it!
My advice... Buy the 150,000 mile Vette
