Default Hello All! I've got a dream!

A very farfetched dream at the moment, but a dream nonetheless:

Ah beautiful...

So, I will be upfront and honest that I am not (yet) a corvette or even car enthusiast. I'm an electrical engineer with a dream that one day I'd be able to rebuild a car to match this kind of beauty.

After browsing your forum (and using the search function ) I can tell that y'all are extremely knowledgable and -well- over my head, to the point that I feel kind of goofy posting here amidst the jargon.

So enough intro and on to some general questions:

After looking around quite a bit, I can infer that this picture is of a 1970 coupe. However I am unsure which model this would be, or even what models/trim packages exist for this year. Any advice on where to find info about the different models for this Stingray era?

Now, as I need to be open-minded, I'd like to know what y'all think of the 69-72 vettes. What are the major differences, subtle differences, and recommendations between the models?

Finally, I've checked out most of the top vette sites, but most are still over my head. I need somewhere to start learning about these vettes and their construction. Obviously if I'm to see this dream through, I need to be fully familiar in what I'm dealing with! Any suggestions?

I appreciate any responses. I know my post is a quite off-kilter from the usual topics, but I could find no better place to post my dream!

No dream is too far-fetched..Everyone on this forum has the same dream, only the year changes..It's all about the Vettes

Good Luck.

You have to start somewhere and this forum has a lot of information available from knowledgable Vette folks.

A lot of information regarding Vette facts between different years is available on the internet for free. For instance try: http://100megsfree4.com/corvette/

Or you can try your library and local book stores, tons of books available on Vettes. Study classified ads (incl the forum) and auctions to see what people are asking for various years so you can pick a year that fits in your budget. If you like '69-'72 models, they are the years going up in value at the highest rate among all C3's right now. But there are still plenty of affordable examples available depending on there condition or originality. Of course certain options will escalate the price such as a big block engine or a roadster. Good luck.

70-72 coupe; hard to distinguish further. Side pipes are not factory; mirrors are not stock. This car appears a little green in the pic but is probably blue.

Nice car.

The best I can offer is.....if were not for the folks on this forum and their knowledge I couldn't own a vette! I have 2 a 97 (C5) and new to the family a 73 (C3). See dreams really do come true.

One small piece of advice make sure you have a check book.....it will be needed for all the "chrome" you will want to buy!

Good Luck and go out AND buy that car!

Thanks for the help folks! I checked out the sites y'all mentioned and have found a wealth of info! I'm sure there are some books at the library I could look through as well.

Also thanks for the encouragement...it may be a while, but I can assure y'all I'll be back one day with a vette in my avatar!

Don't forget to add, if you do get your vette someday, don't forget to when seeing other vettes (it's a vette thing ). Good luck in your search and welcome to the forum

This book helped me a lot in my search:

Corvette C3 1968-1982 Buyer's Guide by Richard Prince and Richard Princ (Paperback - Dec 2003)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/076...e=UTF8&s=books

Good luck!

That actually looks to be a 72, since the front turn signals look amber, rather than clear...

Anyway, the 69-72s are very similar. 70 is where the biggest change happened, with the different fender vents and flares in front of and behind the tires (personally I like the 70-72s more than the 68-69s). It comes down to personal preference and what you can find.

Good luck!

I think you are looking at a '72. My car is a '70, but has Bryar blue paint from 71-72. I like the 70 style(wider fender flares) and in '71, a BIG horsepower drop due to smog regulation. They are all cool cars. Good luck.

Good luck!

plus, the egg crate side louvers look like they have both vertical and horizontal chrome trim.

Thanks again guys! I've got quite a cart full of books on amazon now!

And thanks for letting me know that my pic is probably of a '72, I'm much more informed after checking out the links y'all provided!
