Default Sidepipes on a 73

OK...I'm really new to the C3 side of things. We are looking to work a deal today on a 73.....here's the question of the day! Sidepipes look to be factory equipment how can we tell for sure? There are NO cut outs on the back of the car. Want to make sure I sound like I know what I am talking about when I work this deal later today. Thanks!!!!

69 was the only c3 to come with sidepipes from the factory. Most of the major vendors sell filler panels for the rear to cover up the cutouts. Definitely not original, but definitely not a bad thing either

Thanks!!! I looked and could not find out for sure what the real deal was. Is there anything that I should look for (as "Beware") that could create an issue or to see if these after market pipes could be a problem?

Mine are OEM sidepipes added to my '73. I heard there is also a difference between big-block and small-block mufflers behind the pipe covers, but I could be wrong!

This is the first day I got the car (still dirty!) with the old wheels:

Here you can see that the bracket holding the exhaust isn't! Gotta fix that! But these are the new wheels:

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I think I'm going to go for it! I've noticed quite a few with the exhaust hanging below the covers. Is there a chronic problem with these brackets?

Yep. If you are more of a "original equipment" guy, just ask the owner if he has the original manifolds and rear valence. IMO side pipes are much sweeter anyway.
Good luck!

73's didn't come with sidepipes. There is a glass panel you can install in the rear to fill in the exhaust openings. Some guys have glassed in the openings without replacing the whole panel. Rod

Does it have the original style metal covers or the fiberglass? If it has the metal ones, those alone are worth some serious $$$!
