You think you had a bad Vette day!
Last year April 2005 I installed a 427 small block to replace my 383. This winter I decided to install a TKO 600 5 speed.
Lot's of things getting me down lately. ****ty people at work. Long work hours. My Vette has been 2006 constant pain in the ars. Finally start driving it and it wont start up once it gets hot. I've got some ideas on the fix for that. The motor floods when you shut it off - I was told to replace all the rubber sections on the supply side from the tank to the mech pump on the side of the motor
Then this last Friday I had an appointment to get the exhaust welded up. I had to cut the pipes to install the trannys new custom cross member. So I took off the afternoon and when I get there they are all filled up. So I had to yell at the manager, because my phone number was right next to my name and they could have called me. Then I was driving about 100 mph on the way home when it made a bang under the hood. I pulled over and saw that the steering pump lost it's front stud and it allowed the pump to **** sideways. This caused the power steering pump mount to the engine to break. It tore the outer V-Belt steel pulley off the crankshaft damper. I lifted the hood and said to myself, “Either you should start going to church more often and straighten up your life or you should start drinking heavy!” So my Saturday was an all day bending over the fenders and under the car. Then it was several trips to Summit racing and parts stores. I ended up with billet aluminum pulleys

Had a similar issue with bolt vibrating loose on the 69 502..broke a tab off the P/S pump bracket..loctite everything down there now...
But this should make ya feel better...the short story is I ran over my ankle and wrenched my knee pushing the 69 one day...had BFG tread mark on my Wranglers..

George, I'm not concerned that your weekend sucked, I'm concerned that you're moving to the dark side by adding those aluminum pulleys to your engine and that you might be moving away from the speed demon that you are to the wax on, wax off side. There's not room for both of us on the wax on, wax off side, so go take those aluminum pulleys off and go back to driving like a bat out of hell! Rod

Sorry about your problems. This is getting bizarre. I posted a couple of weeks ago about the missing front bolt to my p/s pump (furtuantely no damage resulted) and then someone else had the front bolt come out and jam the pulley (which burned up the belt), and now you.

Must be a phase of the moon thing. I had a terrible Sunday, though admittedly, not as bad as yours. Mine is a couple of weeks away from being back on the road so any damage is stuff that I've done with a wrench, cut off wheel, hammer, crow bar....
incidentally, where in Reno is the Summit store? This may be information that I'm financially better off without.

Rod - This isn't a show car. I was trying to get my car going. the steel 3 v-belt replacement was $32 the billet aluminum is only $45 with tax. My steel stock one got ripped apart. Billet aluminum looks pretty tough to me. I need to post a picture of the pulley with the whole center ripped out of it and the three bolts and crank nut sitting on the damper holding just torn metal.
The pump has a front and rear stud that kind of act like the pivot point.
That sucks to get run over by a tire pushing a car!

My exhaust appointment was at 1 pm Friday. The parts blew apart at 1:30 I drove it the rest of the way home without power steering.
I called some friends and we were at a big casino sports book drinking beer by 2:30. I was real thirsty and we kept the cocktail lady in the skimpy outfit very busy. I went to bed really early and got up refreshed and ready to hit the Vette with a better attitude!

GKull,
Had one of those days once and I feel your pain...Driving home from a Vette show and my smog pump belt decides to let go. I had noticed that it was not in perfect condition but I figure "so what" if my smog pump belt lets go, right?... WRONG! The belt snaps while driving down the interstate and slaps the underside of the hood causing a golf ball sized piece of pretty red laquer to go flying up into the air!!!! Then the broken belt gets caught up in the rest of the belts and pulleys. This caused the A/C compressor mounting stud on the exhaust manifold to snap off inside the passenger side cylinder head. The compressor mounting bracket snapped as well. The stud was broken off inside the head so the head has to come off in order to remove the broken stud. I am now beyond pissed and way too busy to tear into all that...
something like 8 years later...the hood repaint/engine rebuild/upgrade/bracket replacement is finaly complete! Time to get drunk and then go to church.
-Mark.

years ago i was convinced to always use good Z-rated tires.
I'm driving up the freeway 25 years ago in my 79 Vette. Things were much friendlier back then. way up on the side of the road is a Vette with a man standing behind it. So I come pulling up to help out a fellow Vette. The 78 Vette was missing most of a rear quarter panelclear up to the rounded rear window. His drivers year tire was shredded. It whipping around completely shatter the fiberglass body.
He had installed some kind of big fat rear tires and said that he was driving along at 80-90 mph when the tire blew. I changed out what ever kind of tires I had and got the highest speed rating availiable. I think back then it might have been V-rated for 150 mph.

You know; I was having a bad day some months ago, so I was driving the sedan (vette has been parked for a while ) and stopped waiting for this van to make the turn. He's not moving so I go around him thinking He's stopped to call in... Well I look at him and see what he's looking at.
Some nice Mustang is sitting in the 6' deep drainage ditch, perfectly centered, in about 1 foot of water....
Well, I'm having a great day all of a sudden

Makes me kinda happy that I haven't been driving mine much this year Sorry to hear about the troubles George. It sounds just like whenever I "improve" something on my own car
