At first glance it reminds me of a fuel filter for a Ford, I dunno if they ever used on in line as O.E., usually one end is threaded , other then that maybe someone else has been to more Worlds Fairs then me and can make a better guess. Peace,,,Moosie

its a diode for vaccume!! one way valve
