I think the OEM recommended cold tire pressure for 225/70R15's was 28 front and rear.

Take a look at the drivers side door jam, to see if the original Certification Label is still there. That will give you what GM recommended for your car. From there you can adjust it to suit your driving style and comfort level.

I personally run at least 32 in all of my cars, and as much as 35 in a couple. I like the responsiveness and feel, that a higher pressure gives.

I run mine at 30-31 psi cold and if on a track up to 34-35 p.s.i. cold to stiffen the sidewalls per VIR's instructions. Only did it once on the prior set of BFG TA rwl 255x60x15's.

However, I have new kyb shocks but the original transverse steel leaf spring in the back of mine and new body mount and most suspension bushings in the back, #4 and #8.

If a p.o. has put a stiffer than stock spring in, Billstein shocks or other of the hardest kind, done anything else to the suspension like prep it to road race which means get rid of the body mount bushings and weld the frame down hard for no movement as I understand it then it might ride like a truck made in the 1950's.

Buy a good quality air gauge and never trust the automatic ones at the gas stations. they lie!

Mine rides perfectly with the setup above. Very smooth.

Default 78 pace car psi's 255/60R15

running BFG T/A ... door panel says 28/32 ... I typically run 30/35 without issues

obviously your handling preferences apply .... my settings let the rear end be a litttle apt to oversteer but those are my preferences.

The original poster had asked about 225/70R15's though, and that is what I had responded too.

The 81-82 Corvette, with standard suspension and optional P255/60R15's Eagle GT's, had a recommended cold tire pressure of 35 psi for both front and rear. I don't know if the same sized GT Radial's on a 79, had the same recommended tire pressures as the Eagle GT's. Suspension tuning and the fiberglass rear spring, may have required different pressures?

I used to run 28 lbs all around , but I found I was bottoming out a lot
with the headers going over speed bumps. Found the suspension a little to soft anyway so I've bumped it to 35lbs. Its just enough of a boost over the speed bumps that they don't bother me anymore.

Default Will it make a difference ?

28 - 31 - 35 lbs

What will be the handling difference at the different pressure settings ?

Will I feel "bumps" because my tires are "harder" inflated ?
Will it be a "smoother" ride because I chose low pressure settings ?

I'm a "daily / cruiser" driver. No race track.

As far as I know, every tire I have ever owned had a "max press" on the tire sidewall. I usually run at or close to that. For the BFG Radial T/As I have on my car right now, the max is 35, so I shoot for 32-35 cold. I'll admit, I may be underthinking this one.
