Doors/windows different on 82 from any other C3 years?
We went to a Vette shop/junkyard and told them we needed a replacement door for our 82. The door they gave us is of course used, but it looked externally correct and bolted up to the car and everything fine. It's now fitted properly and painted, and basically done HOWEVER, they're putting the old door glass back in and it doesn't fit. They've had 3 glass companies out and can't get it to fit properly. There seems to be a 1" gap to fill on the back of the door that they just can't figure out. My question is: if they gave us a different year C3 door, were there any big differences that would cause this, or is there something damaged in the new door that would cause this. This is the original glass from this car.

What year door did they sell you? I thought all later year C-3's were the same?? Maybe an adjustment here or there? It is amazing how much a side window will move with just a little tug or two.

Have no idea what year it is, visually it looks the same from the outside. Fit the body just fine too. We bought it from a place we trust, just told them we needed a door to fit our 82 and trusted them to give us one.
I'll tell the bodyshop tomorrow to check the weatherstrip, however this place is pretty competent and the other side lined up properly. He said they had 3 people out there trying to get it in with no avail, they're pretty confident something is different.

Another thought just came to mind.......perhaps the door is from an earlier roadster and not a coupe? Did they have different side windows?
maybe someone else on the forum can chime in.

I remember reading somewhere in my catalogs that someone sells a kit to retrofit a convertible door to a coupe car. I don't recall what was different but something was.

A roadster window is definitely different.
Here is a suggestion. Take the door panel off your other door. Measure the window. Measure the track distances. See if there are any notible differences. I don't think there will be.
I have had my window out. It should be about an inch away from the fibreglass on the rear. There is about 3/4-1 inch of play in the adjustment. The key is to hit the rubber on the front pillar and to get the top level withe "T" top. This also means the "T" top must be level. Adjusting these things is tricky.

Bubba put a roadster door on my passenger side. The glass appears to be slightly longer than the coupe door on my driver's side. The roadster door has an alignment pin several inches above the latch. The coupe door is smooth with no pin.

We have the old glass though, think there's a way to make it work in the roadster door if that's what's wrong? Anyone remember where to get the conversion kit if that's what I end up needing?
The paint and bodywork on this door would be very expensive to re-do, it's a candy color and is smooth as glass.

You still need to check it. If you have the correct glass it has to be the position of the tracks. Take the door panels off and determine the difference. There is more then one way to align the tracks.
