Default How do I ship a C3 hood that I want to sell?

I have a hood that I want to get rid of (Ecklers L88 'short') but I have no idea how to ship it. Anyone have any experience with this? I want to get it all figured out before I even try to sell it, and so I can figure out a fare price to charge for the shipping.

Also, how do i box it up so it won't be damaged? Where can I find a good box that big?

I recently sold a very large item. I went to a Levitz furniture store for the box. They had no problem letting me pick and choose the one I needed. Plus tons of free packing material. They were only going to crush it anyway. They had plenty of huge boxes which were very strong and sturdy. Brought it home, packed it, taped the hell out of it, went to fed-ex,they weighed it, it weighed over 100 lbs, and they quoted me the fee. Good luck

Great idea. I didn't know that FedEx would ship something so big. Thanks!

When I got mine from Ecklers, it was "foamed" into a large cardboard box. It came by truck...

Default go greyhound

I sold a hood on this forum and shipped it greyhound. I wrapped it in a blanket and foam and then wrapped all that in cardboard and took it to greyhound. price is determined by size not weight and they will take anything up to 72x48 i think. greyhound.com that will tell you how and where to take it. also very fast I sent it out in the morning and 9 hours later he picked it up. all depends on their schedule. they just put it under a bus with the luggage and off it goes. they insured it too. I would recomend them. It cost me 40 bucks and that is not bad for same day delivery.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I think I will check with Greyhound tomorrow, as well as the furniture store.

FedEx or UPS will gouge you with an oversize fee. I would ship it by bus or Airborne Express Ground.

Pick a frieght line. Any frieght line will ship it. You just have to drop it off at their local terminal.

FedEx Freight is a different division than FedEx. When it was American Freightways they had decent prices. Since FedEx bought it, not so much. Maybe they have gotten better, it has been a year or 2. I have just had excellent luck with shipping big stuff (bumpers, bench seat, gas tank, fender) with Airborne Express Ground. Even since DHL bought them.

Put some extra cardboard or foam around the corners so they don't get chipped up in transit.

Do like I have done with large or heavy items like body panels or engines: to expensive for shipping charges to sell on e-bay so I sell on Craig's list whihc is local to your area. Have sold lots of itmes that way the first day I list them. Not an auction, you set the price, no fees, it's free.
