Default Who to ship a crate engine with?

I need to sell my ls1 engine to finance some of my other future toys. Unfortunately, I do not know of any companies that dont charge some insane amount of money to ship a crated engine. Who would you guys suggest? The engine fully dressed weighs 450 pounds not including crating. Dimensions are similar to a 350. Thanks.

you could try contacting a crate motor company, and BS about buying one, the ask how it will be sent.

I was looking at Jeg's and I think I saw $169 freight on a 454 crate motor. I didn't think that was bad

Fed Ex, They have their own trucking services LTL and seem resonable.

Are you still planning in building the GTM?

From where to where? We use Fed Ex for heavy pallets at work. Might check destination carriers for a quote. Check online yellow pages for companies that are in both places.

Higs, I would be shipping from Largo, FL 33770. Not to sure on a destination yet. The potential buyer that I need a quote for is somewhere in texas, 78233.
Thanks for the ideas on crate companies. You guys are great.
Frankenvette, I still plan on building a GTM but I have had to push my timeframe back alot. My original plans were to have a GTM kit around April or so, then buy a donor and go from there. Unforunately the only way for me to come up with the money would be to sell my vette. My progress on putting her all back together seemed to come to a halt when I bought a 98 Camaro SS convertable. Now I am trying to buy a jet boat, thus the need to sell my ls1 engine. Anyways, the GTM project is not forgotten, but definately suspended for a few years. That should give me enough time to get tired of my toys, want to sell them, and move onto another project.

Try Airborne Express Ground. I have had very good luck and reasonable prices. I think DHL bought them, but last I checked, the prices were still good.

American Freightways was reasonable before FedEx Freight bought them.
