Default My C3 insurance sucks

I just got the premium notice of $1514/yr for the 77. ($50K/100K/ with a $500 deduct.) This is on top of a multicar discount with a co that I have been with for several years. (Liberty nutual). Drivers are myself, wife, son (27 yrs old ) all with great credit & clean records. The real kick in the as* was that I just found out the loss from a theft or destruction was BOOK VALUE!. That means I get jack for it if stolen. I have a 00 C5 with them & only pay $926/yr. When I originally added the car on we spoke of a $8000 value & I was under the assumption that it was covered for that price in case of loss. ( My stupid for not getting it in writing); OMG I've been driving around with this thing & could have lost it all if it were stolen. On the phone they now have no record of such a price agreement. They told me I needed an appraisal for the value and than would add that on for an additional cost. It is a daily driver at this time so collector car insurance wouldn't work . I did get in touch with Mercury insurance & am waiting for thier price. I don't know I may just garage it and buy a 2nd car for daily transport. That will take the fun out of it for sure. This sucks.

You must be young? I pay about $400 for driving 6 months in the summer and storage in the winter. One of the advantages of being an old fart is cheap insurance.

I'm almost embarrased.
$160/year through Hagerty on my 68 convert., agreed value.
Come to think of it, insurance all my cars, my PWC and a 42' boat are less than $1500/year

AON Collector Car insures both of my Vettes for replacement values of (if recall the values correctly at time of insuring) $20,000 and $10,000 respectively for the '69 and '80. Total per year is about $275 and that includes unlimited miles as long as I can show that each driver to insure on the policy has a reliable primary vehicle.

Try State Farm. . I don't use them anymore but they used to be fair on Corvettes.

The company I am with now (USAA) will only deal with Military/Government/Veterans and their family. You can't beat the service but you need to qualify.

My anecdote is that my 1969 Corvette was insured with State Farm with a declared value of $10,000. It was stolen in 1991. Notwithstanding the policy declared value, they paid me $25,000 in 1993. I never asked to be paid more than $10,000, but I never demanded $10,000 either. They made the $25,000 offer at their own initiative. I never understood why, but I never questioned them either. I accepted the offer. My best guess is that the insurance contract must have been for the declared value or market value, whichever was more.

Mark's Spot On. USAA is a great company. However, I have yet to contact them to have the C3 re-appraised after refurbishment. Not sure I can convert to an AGREED VALUE policy. Current cost is $300/yr. as my second car.

If you're willing to believe a C2 guy, I suggest contacting State Farm. They write policies for cars over 10 years in age that are generally mileage limited (about 2K per year) for about $350 per year (as I pay for my 67 L71). And I live in the worst insurance market in the nation (detroit metro area) where I would have to pay over $2000 per year to insure a C5 Z06.

Insurance will alway be hidg for a daily driver and your 27yr. old son will not make it any cheaper. I had state farm when I first got my car and to drive it back from Tennessee, 600. for ever six months. Also it will only be covered for blue book unless there is a writer issued with stated or agree value.

The only way that I have found cheaper insurance is the classic car insurance such as Grundy or Hagerty. Hagerty has a miles per year clause, Grundy does not, but both require it not to be a Daily Driver.

check with allstate. we have 5 autos insured with them. on two of our cars we have full coverage which we can drop the liability on when we are not driving them. when we want to drive them we just call the agent and tell him to put the liability back on them. the 69 vette i just have liability on it mainly because i just reciently purchased it and want to drive it to see what i need to do it. the other two we drive to car shows or on jcna drives. the bottom line is we pay roughly 1600 a year for 5 cars. the 5 cars are 2004 ford (full coverage), 1999 jaguar xk-8 (full coverage less libality), 1993 xkr-s jaguar(full coverage less libality) 83 mustang 5.0 conv liabilty only and the 69 corvette conv liability only.
