Default C3 in the Hot Rod/Comp Cams Pump Gas Drags

I went out to the Hot Rod/Comp Cams Pump Gas Drags today in Memphis and there was one C3 in it.I've got some movie footage I don't know how to put on,I guess someone would have to host it.I didnt get a chance to talk to the owner, but he was in the ten fastest street cars in the nation with a 9.13 average of 3 passes, after driving there about 25 miles. If anyone can host the movies, let me know.

If I am not mistaken, that car was in the running last year and actually made the fastest pass, but broke, so he was disqualified. Anyway, there was a vette in it last year. Cool pics. I bet that was a blast to see. Thanks for posting the pics for us to ogle.

When I saw the first picture, I was sure it was the same guy - fastest of all last year but his MSD ignition was put too close to the exhaust and caused its overtemp cutout to activate - which technically disqualified him. That is one fast car!!! He also runs a stock type IRS that's really been beefed up.

It's nice to see what the IRS can handle (9's). Kind of looks like a reverse paint job of Oliviers car.

9 second cars are scary to ride in the first time. i remeber in my uncles chevelle (600 cubic inches) we went for a ride and i didnt hook very good and it was scary.his only runs 10 right now becuase he hasnt tuned it.it should rune in the hihg nines after he tunes it. then hes gonna hit it with nitruos.

Great to see he made it back in again. Sounds like he ran identical to last year almost (9.17's). I had heard he had done some 8.80's and Toms differentials were helping him hoping for mid 8's. They had redone trailing arms with aluminum bushings...poly's were dying.

Did the black C-2 make it back this year?

Who won? What were fastest times? How deep in the 8's did they make it?

My friend went last year and said it is the same guy who went the fastest time last year.Like you said,he was DQed on the drive over to the track, his MSD box overtemped a couple times and if you stop, overheat,or run out of gas,its over. And you are right, its still got IRS.It was a very fast car, those pictures were taken as he pulled in from the drive before the officials ran everyone out of the staging lanes. If anyone can host or tell me how to put it up,I have a few Quicktime movies of him in the burnout box and also making a pass.

The black C2 wasnt there, one other later generation vette made it but the C3 was faster. The guy who had the fastest average was in a A model Ford street rod,I'll post a pic of it later. The absolute lowest time went to the Dodge Viper, 8.62 at 166? I think, his other two passes were in the 9's,hurt his average. In the top 10 fastest cars, the first 7 cars all were in the 8's.The guy who had the 67 Chevelle that won it last year placed 5th this year,he was the first of the day into the 8's.A really strong car, banging gears with a 5 speed all the way down the track .A Chevy II coupe that was there made so much power at the line he did wheelstands on his two attempts,I think his time was 9.95 with a trap speed of about 150.A serious contender if he can ever get it to run straight,he wasted a lot of time off the line. And there was one serious wreck,a guy who overheated on the way over and was DQed already made a pass after everyone else had run.He had a late model Mazda RX7 with a Chevy LS-1 twin turbo in it,made a run of 9.55? at 155 and lost control after he went thru the traps.I heard something in the cooling system let go and covered the windshield in coolant, but he made it out OK as far as he was concerned, the car was pretty tore up after he hit the wall and spun a few times.

96 black Mustang w/SBC/NOS...8.99....9.50
(did not see second pass)

Fastest Et and Mph.....Viper.....8.62 @ 166

There was only one naturally aspirated car there..a 555" '69 Camaro who ran a 9.37!! But he vapor locked just outside the gates on the cruise part and got DQ'fied. Bummer!

I'd like to see more about that car...I assume it's a Big Chief headed type motor..that takes LOTS of HP to pull off!

One of the black Hemi Chargers from last year spit out a driveshaft on the first pass.

As you can see....it's pretty tough to lay down three consecutive passes with HP at this level. Some folks had monster slicks, but others were smaller. Obviously big tire guys have an advantage.

Its supposed to be a IRS in the vette. At the awards that night, they had the vette in the top 10 I'm pretty sure. Before they announced any winners, the Hot Rod guy said that someones protest was denied, and if they still had a problem they could carry on with it after the ceremony.Did the site have anything about that?
