Default Value of original engine included in sale of 64

I unfortunately have to sell my 1964 Convertible that has a new LT1 in the car. I have the original engine and need advice on the value to a potential buyer? Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

The original engine is a 327, 235hp; the car still has the 2 speed powerglide.

They didn't produce a 235hp in 1964.

What are the numbers/letters on the stamp pad? I think you meant a 250 hp.

As long as you have the original matching numbers engine, the car could be put back to original. So although it's not strictly a "matching numbers" car right now as it is, the value would basically be the same as if the original engine was installed.

Without the original engine, you'd take a hit on the value. How much depends on how original the rest of the car is. So the value of the original engine is basically whatever that value difference is.

You're in a bit of a unique situation because the car has an LT-1 (high performance) engine with a two speed powerglide. Not too many people are going to want that combination and therefore it might be a tough sell unless you find a buyer who really wants the automatic. If the original engine is in good condition you'd probably do better to install it and sell the car as original, and sell the LT-1 separately.

I disagree on this based upon the following;

what condition is the original engine in?
what will be the cost to refurbish and install?

The original engine adds value but not as much as it it were in the car.

Obviously, for someone looking for an original car, there's going to be a deduction if it's going to cost money to rebuild and install the original engine. But for someone looking for a driver with the option of going back original, it may actually be worth more because the original block can be kept safe while the car is driven with the non-original engine. Just depends on the buyer...

Thanks for the input. This was to be a daily driver; I put a power steering conversion kit on which made the car easier to drive and I kept the powerglide because I liked the way it drives. I debated the disc brake conversion and kept the drums. I converted to disc on another car and despite what everyone will say, I enjoyed the drum brake feel. Of course, I never drove it in the rain!

I'm not sure of the condition of the "original" engine, I bought it with the car and have it stored; the LT-1 was already installed. I would definitely want to rebuild before re-installing it.

I never intended this car to be original, but I also never intended to give it up!
