OK, trying a new tact this year. Looking to trade my matching numbers '67 Lynndale Blue over White Leather, 4 speed L79 convertible and cash for a '67 4 speed big block convertible. Not looking for big bucks matching numbers 427...NOM fine, 454 fine, no motor at all, fine too. Prefer Blue. Check my posts for pics of my car. Not a 100 point car; not looking for another one...just want a '67 big block vert. Thanks
Have you thought about putting a BB in your vette? You can buy a 454 pretty reasonable and a BB hood and keep your matching # engine and hood to replace later. Just a thought.
Hey Sean...yeah, I have had several posts concerning just that idea. One of the major hurdles is all the mods you have to do to go from sb to bb...but I think this time I may pull the trigger and go for it. Unless someone out there reads this post and has a trade in mind...

A friend has a 'real' 435 cp, original driveline, Lyndale with teal when new. Now baby flares and needs restoration. Has POP and history. California car for last 30 plus years. Definately worth restoring.

any idea what the cost or budget would be for such an operation?

I have an original 66 427 block that has the correct suffix code but wrong vin for my 66 vert. I have a very good machine shop in town that will re machine the block, crank and heads, put it all back together with new cam and lifters and install it in the car for around 4500. I provide my motor. I am going to put it in my 66 this winter.

Nicola, Nick you have the same problem I do...a small block CAR that you would like to make into a big block CAR...not as simple as just dropping a bb engine into the bay...but as long as you are not trying to pass it off as "the real deal," the cost isn't too crazy. The big cost is whatever engine you choose, and that can be from 5 grand to 20 depending on what you want, but that's not the end by far. There is also a big cost in converting a small block CAR to a big block CAR. The details are all over the forum, but in essense you need a bb hood including repaint, bb radiator, radiator support, hoses, fuel lines, engine stuff, etc., then springs, probably half shafts, i.e. another 5grand in stuff...then can you do your own labor...if not, figure another 2-5grand so you are looking at 8 to 20grand to do it nicely and you still will not have a bb car for resale purposes (that dang vin), you will not recoup your costs...BUT, you will have a car you can have a lot of fun with...and who can put a price tag on that. As many have said to me...do it, enjoy the hell out of it and you won't regret it...

thanks for the enlightenment...I can think of other ways to have fun with 8k to 20k...good luck

Hey Nick, if I can sell my 65 I'll buy that car. You know you were just taking care of it for me. LOL! And no, you don't need a BB hood to squeeze a BB under it. I have proof, even though if somebody had a BB hood for a good price, I'd be interested.
Chris, better hurry...got an offer to put an L88 in it for a good price...maybe even a ZL1...got maybe a week before I have to decide...got any bites on your car? Nick
I just finished such a conversion on pretty much the same vette. To replace a small block with a big block 427 you will easily be into 25k (With you doing the work). Its worth every cent if you plan to enjoy the vette for years to come. The sound ... the look of the tri-power is priceless. When I pull into cruise nights and local shows, folks stop and crowd around the vette.
