So that being the case (not a NOM car) what do folks think a fair price for this type of car might be based on the description and what you can see? I'm trying to educate myself on 61s so I can make a wise purchase of one in the near future.
I would start by seeing if anyone from the forum knows C1's very well and may live near the car. Then I would ask if for a price they would be willing to join you and go look at the car to make a good analysis of all aspects and them figure out what a fair offer might be....
I think it is money well spend by you and 2 things will happen...you will learn more about C1's and get a good feeling about the money you may be spending...
I spoke to the seller. here is his response. I have been looking for a 61 for a while and this one is close to my price range. but i am a little hesitant since he cant verify the current engine on the car.
"The car was restored when I bought it 2 years ago. It spent its entire life in Iowa until I purchased it. I have the complete owner history. Previous owners confirm that the car left the factory with a 315 hp, 283 cubic inch fuel injected engine and was red. The frame is rustfree and shows no evidence of any collision or rust repair. It is a very nice car that runs and drives very well. Although the engine block has the appropriate "519" casting number, the numbers on the engine pad do not match the car. The 4-speed transmission is not original to the car. The 4.11 positraction rearend is original. The odometer was reset to zero when the gauge cluster was restored.
Thanks,"
You should consider joining your local chapter of the NCRS. There are people there that can help you evaluate any car you are interested in and educate you as to what is correct/original and what these cars are worth.
Just go to www.ncrs.org and go to the contacts page and click on the chapters button to find your local chapter. Even if you have no desire to have a car judged, these guys have a wealth of knowledge.
