Default 65 Coupe Price Range

Looking at a 65 coupe 327/350 4 spd
- previous front clip repair
- seat and door panels need to be redone
- frame rotted by rear kick ups, througout, and cross members
- sidepipes
- paint poor
- wheel well lips cut inner edge probably for larger tires

What would be a good price range?

Let's see... rusted frame, modified body (hopefully not too badly), previous body damage that may need to be re-repaired correctly, needs paint and interior, probably needs a lot more. Your description isn't very complete (original motor?) but it sounds like a fairly major project. I'd say $12-18K.

Yes original 327/350 motor - probably around 140K on the odometer - also appears to have rust around windshield perimeter

Needs a new frame. New paint. New interior. In this economy. Sounds like it need a complete body off resto. The work alone can set you back $40,000.00.
$10,000 sounds like a good price.

Isn't this an indication of potential birdcage damage?

I would pass on that car.

By the time you get it in reasonable shape you will have spend just as much money as if you had bought a qulaity car.

The amount of work required just to be able drive it and enjoy it sounds like it may not be worth the effort and the cost....I think I would pass also...

My opinion of this car would be "Parts Car". I would think something around $5K is fair maybe a few $'s higher if I needed a parts car for a quality project that I was building. Without a reason to use what is left of it I wouldn't think it has much value at all.
MHO.

Come on guys, its easily worth 15-20 in parts alone. Check fleabay for projects and see what they go for. Try and buy a front clip, door, rear, trans, plus the 1000 other parts on the car. I know the frame scare people and OUR time is free, but for 5k I will buy as many as you have.

OK, I'll be the A Hole. Worth 15 - 20 in parts alone.

By your description this vehicle has a Front clip that has been repaired. $2,000.00 maybe? Doors $600.00? Rear in unknown condition $350.00? Trans in unknown condition $350.00? Worn out 327 motor $750.00? Those thousand other parts on the car that are in dilapidated condition? Priceless/Worthless

By your description: Rotted frame. Been there. Either one hell of a repair job or a replacement frame. New one at least $4,500.00.

Rusted/Rotted windshield frame (which leads directly to the rusted A pillars below the windshield frame that you can't fully see until you remove that front clip) Pig in a Poke. Might be usable. Might be disaster.

Needs complete mechanical rebuild and complete cosmetic rebuild on interior.

As others have posted you are in for a LARGE expense to put this car into usable condition. I would agree with the $40,000.00 that 65 convert suggested.

This is best served as a parts car but if you pay 15 - 20 for it as parts alone your anus is going to burn for YEARS ! ! ! !

You mentioned checking fleabay for "projects". By your description this car is not a project. It is a parts car.

Not more than $7,500 for it and that is if you can disassemble it and part it out yourself.

Just my humble opinion.

Rich

$5K??? Are you for real? Haven't you heard of Laws of supply and demand? Fair? The buyers (not the sellers) are setting the price of at least $20K+ on Ebay.

The old saying "it's only worth what you can sell it for"-and they are exchanging hands at $20K+, then that's what it's worth.

That was the question-not whether it was a good investment or not!!! When you do the math-very few of theses cars are "good investments."

Richard

Absolutely ridiculous. I do not believe coupes are changing hands on ebay for $20k with rotted frames and birdcages, not to mention needing body & paint and interior... you don't even know if completed auctions are legitimate sales. And if they are, theyre idiots.

I saw one local to me-no where near running-front clip had been replaced w/ a one piece-no paint-no interior-some rust on the frame-but it did have a big block(or rather parts of one). Owner even stated that it was not originally a Big Block (early serial numbers confirmed) and it sold for almost $25k. Yes- I know for a fact it went for that money.

I'd buy them ALL day long for $5K-not do a thing -then put them on E-Bay.

My neighbor bought a '65 vert 2 years ago.

He paid 31k for the car and it needed a complete brake system, the motor was weak, and it needed paint.

My neighbor just sold his '65 vert for 28k.

It had a blown and disassembled rear end. Lots of fiberglass damage. It needed a paint job bad. Motor was replaced with a motor out of a truck. The interior was at best a driver and not a good one. The sombrero's were rusted and cracked off their mounts.

There are people out there that will pay lots of cash to own one of these cars. You may not think it is worth the money, but there is always someone out there to buy what you're selling.

I don't see 20,000 out of it with a rotted frame. I wouldn't, I had a car with a solid frame and damaged bird cage (not rusted , bent up). Anyway, I could see it with a solid frame, bird cage. Pictures would help too. I saw a 64 in need of full restoration but no rust issues , and the car was running and driveable that went mid 20's.
