I have a lead on a 62 that has no motor or tranny, but is reported to have everything else including wheel well flares all around. The rear flares are pretty big and I don't care for them. The car has some fair driver paint (copper color), with white coves (wierd for a 62). It is/was a hot rod and I think it may have been a fuelie. The previous owner had a FI unit but did not go with the car without extra payment.
The seller says the chrome and stainless is all good. The car has been in storage since 1979 since the motor was blown. Frame is good. Has ragtop only in fair driver shape. Needs gas tank cleaned or replaced and the brakes done. Needs wheels and tires....has some copper painted wheels (Ansens I think) on it with poor tires. Interior is old tuck and roll, gauges are S/W. Wiring is said to be very good.
I remember the car on Ebay last fall. It was listed at least twice. The 30 year owner had to sell it to pay medical bills. He lowered the reserve price and I think it went for $18-19K. I tried to find it in Ebay's completed listings but they don't go back that far.
If the car is still available I plan on looking at it tomorrow. Asking price is $21K. I know the seller and have bought Corvette parts from him in the past at a very fair price.
If the car is solid with no fiberglass damage other than the flares what do you think of the price? My thinking is I could buy it and have it running this spring while my 59 long term project sits....or I could sell the 59 or trade it to the seller as he has a wrecked titled 59 and is looking for a body. Will the vin give a clue as to fuelie heritage or is that determined by certain features under the hood (something about the air cleaner fresh air intake on the driver's side)?
I just called the seller and it sounds like he will trade it for a pretty nice 55 T-Bird with automatic tomorrow. The car is for his wife....she wants an automatic and the Vette with flares was just too modified to suit her taste. The seller says he also has a firm $20 K offer if the T-Bird trade doesn't work. I'd probably have to pay more or work a trade to get it.
At $20K I know he's making a little profit but he also had to drive 700 miles round trip to pick it up... And he's done some work on it.
I'll check back with him next week to see if he has sold the 62.....he also may have a few 59 parts that I'm looking for so I want to stay in contact.
BTW, your 62 reminds me a bit of the white customized one I that had from 70-72. Fun car.

So the T Bird deal is with someone else? If so, i have a nice Buick Rendvoux I would give up...though my wife might be mad!!
Its hard to tell without some pics, but if the body is all there and what it needs is paint, a motor and trans are easy enough to come by just to move it down the road. I guess I care more about driving it than what it really looks like (see my profile pic) so the rest of it doesn't bother me like it may bother some others.
As for value, certainly you can part it out and make all of your money back if you are so inclined.
Pete, Yes, the 55 T-Bird deal is with someone else. The seller of the 62 has had a few Vettes but is really a Ford guy so the old T-Bird appeals to him. He has some nice cars.....an old style 32 Ford coupe with a Buick nailhead, a 37 Ford coupe with a built 351, and a number of others.
We live out in the country and have almost 1/2 mile of gravel driveway so I don't want to have a show quality paint job. I just want a driver which sounds like your preference. That way you don't have to worry about it so much that you cannot enjoy it.
I wasn't really thrilled initially, about the flares on my 66, but after hearing from a lot of forum members and the fact that this is the first car my "not so car guy" wife has really takin a fancy for, I have decided to drive it a while with the flares. You can do some really fun things with tires and wheels that you normally wouldn't be able to do. Remember....... you can always convert it back. Which I plan to do someday. Is the value less with the flares? Sure it is. Is the value back up with properly installed quarters and fenders? I would say yes.
BTW I have seen some pretty tastefully done flares on C1's.
Your flares do look pretty cool, HS67. I wonder how much a person should discount a prospect car if they intend to change them back to original.....$2,000, $4,000, $6000?????

I guess it's up to the prospective buyer.
I look at it this way....
I do all my own fiberglass and paint which is a plus. New front fenders are 400 each. New rear quarters are 300 each. New paint is 500. There's 2000 in materials before labor. I put in 250 hours on the last 69 I restored in paint and body.
That's why it's hard to calculate a discount.
Are we discounting against the value of an NCRS top flight or a daily driver? I would much rather have a good frame and drivetrain to start with and worry about the flares at some other time. It's just fiberglass. It can be brought back to the the original lines at any time.
wow, what a small world. Workin On 59, im the guy that had the 55 bird. now i have that '62 and im looking too sell it. if you are still interested in the car let me know.
