I am looking at a 67 BB 390HP convertible NOM, now has a 1969 390HP corvette motor & Trans. Has a nice tank sticker. No PS, PB, PW. Side pipes is the only option besides the BB vert. Color is Yellow/ STD black. I estimated it needs about 8K in paint, seals, soft top & misc. I know prices really vary but I don't want to pay too much. Seller has about 55K in it and wont sell less than that but he is starting at 62K. Is he in the ball park? What is the most should I pay? Thanks in advanced for your comments. KY72LT1
I watch the market fairly closely and IMHO, 62k is definitely in the ball park. The car has a few things going for it: paperwork, it's a '67, it is a factory side pipe car, and it is a factory 427. You did not mention if it had a radio, but I will assume yes. Does the car run and drive safely? Any idea if the trans and rear end are original? How is the frame and bird cage? Does it have the original trim tag? How is the body underneath the paint? Assume all of the above are ok, I'd say your 62k is a fair price, and under 60 is a decent deal. FYI, I would expect you'll pay more than 8k for paint unless it is really clean, or you are doing some of it yourself, or have a good relationship with a body shop.
$62K sounds like a solid starting point, if the frame/birdcage/body are in good condition. If you decide to pass on it, please let me know. I would be interested in a NOM 67 BB convertible.
IMHO, $62k is too low and you should jump on it. My '67 is very similar but Marlboro maroon, no sidepipes, two tops, no radio (or radio delete as some like to put it), all original except NOM. It is in excellent condition and I sure would not take $62,000 for it.
Look through past Corvette Magazines to find the issue that has their C2 Market Report for an approximate value.
So my advice is buy it, drive it, and enjoy a big block!
