hey Brett,
this is kind of off topic but... a few years ago a guy i worked with said his neighbor, an "old widow lady" had a 53 in a shed on her property. she said her husband used to race it in scca type events way back in the day. when he died it just sat until 5-10 years ago when somebody hauled it off. he is an honest kind of guy so i don't think he made up the story. i also don't think he knows enough about vettes to know the significance of a 53 so i don't think he "embellished" the year. this was in the valparaiso indiana area. have you ever heard of this car?

I know of a 54 body sitting in a guy's basement with no frame. I don't know if he would sell it, I'll try and contact him and ask if your interested. He bought the car from Grossmueller several years ago and told me that he could have bought the frame too but was going to do a street rod. I've seen the car and this body is in poor condition. The front clip has been removed and it's busted up. I also don't know what parts come with it. I wouldn't think that you would want this car for a restoration project but if you could use any of what's there I would say usable stuff that I have seen is, Glass, windshield frame, doors, trunk lid, deck lid, and other fiberglass sections that could be used on another body if needed. He has mentioned many other parts but is yet to start the project. Let me know if you have any interest in this and what would be fair (I'm not trying to make any money here) and I will let you know what I find out. I will also try to get some pictures if you are seriously interested. PM me with any other questions. It's a shot in the dark if he will sell, but who know's it never hurts to ask!

Thanks Scott. Pics would be nice. I can always use parts and also another tub.
We offered him $100k on a phone message but got no response. The car has been bumped in the front right and left rear. Not the original engine/trans either. The ebay ad is misleading but it is a REAL 53 and could be restored easily enough. I think he wwants $125k.

This is kinda off topic but my dad had a chance years back to buy a package deal of a 1953 and 1962 corvette for $25000. He called the next day to purchase them and they had just sold. Still regretting not getting to them first.
Brett, How cool is this that you post a wtb ad on the forum and some guy responds that he knows of a body in a basement ! I am really impressed by the members on this forum and thier knowledge, how else would any of us know that this stuff is still around, beit in an overpriced showroom somehwere or someone's basement ? Carry on mon frere ! I will just sit back and happily drink it all in !

Rayvaflav, It is unreal what some people do with these old vettes to hide, or hoard them away. This car that is in the basement is not only "Locked" inside this persons house but it's sitting on the floor (no dolly) with a 1/2" cable running through the cowl vent hole, through a hole in the firewall, and then around a steel pole with a pad lock on it. It's like he thinks if someone breaks in they are gonna carry the body around his house to the street and take-off with it. He is a very strange person anyway and it may take me a week to contact him for the member that is interested. All of the parts that go with the car is scattered about through the house, litterally every room. He lives by himself and has no friends (it's really sad). A friend of mine had once worked with this fella and told me about the car. We went by there three times before I ever got to see this heap and WOW! there really is a 53/54 Corvette there. The owner bought the car from Grossmueller before he passed away and he indicated that he had been taken. He said the car was described as being in much better condition and when it arrived this is what he got (I call it typical). I have always been interested in the stories that go along with these hidden cars that are found everyday just like this one. Some stories we hear often and then others are more original. Stay tuned and I'll give an update when I ask this person if he wants to sell the car! By the way, this car is located in Lawrenceville, Ga.
zadspal,
Hey Golfer! Is that a maroon/saddle 69 coupe in your picture? I ahve been looking for mine for 30 yrs. 4 speed, no ac, small block 350/350 with a 67 motor???
no, i just recognize the symptoms
i'm just as bad. the nomad is in the paint shop, the convertible is getting all new mechanicals at my house and the vette still needs work but i am still collecting parts for my next project
