I put this list together just this past week. I BELIEVE AIR CONDITIONED CORVETTES BUILT FROM 1963 THRU 1967 ARE VERY RARE AND VERY COLLECTIBLE. ESPECIALLY 365HP SOLID LIFTER ENGINE EXAMPLES. Now add power brakes, power windows, four speed or rare powerglide, tele, teak, ........K-19 Smog control.........K66 Transistor ignition,.........and color to the equation and I think you will see how rare these cars are.

Air Conditioned cars are rare, ....PERIOD. The followiing chart shows how rare they are indeed. Noland gave us this info in 1987 when he printed his great "Restoration & Technical Guide" books.

Now if you add power windows.......teak wheel..tele......speedminder dash......'real' knockoffs / boltons........K19 Smog pump........
K-66 Transistor ignition.......and then color to the equation, you can understand how rare these cars are.........Especially the solid lifter high performance engine cars with AC that today are still alive 42 plus years later.

* represents total 1966 air condition production for 427/390hp L36 engines. There are no records for manual or auto trans. Since Nolands book, other records indicate that only 20 M35 powerglide 66 Corvettes were made with air conditioning.

** represents 1963 production at 278. It has been stated that 50 convertibles were made with air conditioning and 228 coupes. There are no records as to wheather they were 250hp or 300hp engines. 'TWO' Split window coupes were made with 36 gallon N0-3 gas tanks and air conditioning. One a red /red powerglide, and the other a silver black 4 speed. Both have 300hp engines and still are in collectors hands.

Hey Jim,

I was courious about the figures you quoted. It's frustrating when you put the work in and the bloody computer won't co-operate! I was trying to work out the columns and couldn't get them to add up. Could you repost and add (?) or (0) instead of just blanks? At least I would appreciate it. Thanks

Bud

Jim,

Thanks for providing the production numbers. I knew our '64 Ermine White/Tan Leather 365hp 4-spd Coupe with A/C and PW was probably in a minority population, but I didn't realize it was one of 243. Someday when I turn the keys over to my son, I'll make sure he knows that fact.

Your car is very nice looking. Good luck with the sale.

hi jim,
i'm far from an expert, but i was wondering if the corvette was built in dec./63 why is a july tag on the license plate ? did it sit unsold at the dealer for 6+ months ? and also, the letter "O" on the plate should be in the 65 era car, shouldn't it ? just wondering ??

When 2nd owner, Bill Headley bought the car in July 1984, DMV issued a new one year title from July 84 to July 85. Each year it changed in July, the new anniversary date.

I have a 64 Chevelle 2 door wagon that was originally owned by Mickey Thompson. The original black plates on this car are "OOC964" The car was built in Los Angeles on 11E (November, 5th week) and sold at Jack Wall Chevrolet on April, 4, 1964 to M. Thompson Enterprises, Bradbury, CA.

Trust me , the black yellow plates on the Corvette are the originals.
