57 Fuelie Heads 3731539 - What are they worth?
These are currntly on my 59 with a 327, It run's good but run's out of breath
after 5000Rpm, I'm wanting to get some Either Vortec Style heads or Aluminum to let her breath with possible cam upgrade.
Any Ideas what these are worth? Date Code is A217 "January, 21 1957".
Just hoping to re-coup some of my cost of new heads.
Thanks,
Andrew

Those are the low hp fuelie heads, but to the guy restoring one they could be worth a bit. Have they had anything done to them? ie valve seat etc. I would say probably between $500-1000. Too bad they are not the 283/283 heads, they could be worth some serious coin.

According to the NCRS guide book, 3731539 heads were installed by GM on '57 Corvette 283hp FI engines. However, they aren't rare castings. They are the "power pak" heads that were also installed on a gazillion '57 Chevy passenger cars with 4-barrel engines.
The key factor in their value is their condition. Most old iron heads are worn out. Many have been decked too many times and the head bolt holes are starting to crack and chip. Work to repair old heads is not cheap. I usually budget $400 to salvage a pair that needs valves, inserts, springs, and machining.
I imagine that if your heads are perfect you might get several hundred dollars for them. If they need rebuilding or weld repair, you might find buyers pretty scarce.

I got one of these heads your talking about I think. I took one in to have a helicoil and the guy at the shop started asking me all these questions. He said he hasn't seen the cylinder head I have for about 20years. He told me I get sell them for about 300$ in bad shape. The one I have is for a 283, I'm asking about 350 but I might want to ask for a little more if there that valuable. I just want to sell the one I got to repair another pair of heads I got for a motor I'm building myslef. Let me know if you find what they might really be worth.
