FS...1966 427/390 HP (IM Suffix Code) Engine Assembly from Vin#15387
Hey guys,
I bought a 71 BB Coupe for parts last year, and discovered this motor hiding out in the engine bay. You can imagine my surprise when I ran the numbers and realized that not only was it a 66 Corvette 427, but that it was an A.I.R. (option code K19) motor as well. As far as I can tell, this is a pretty rare(2380 total production) and option specific(must have been a California car) kind of engine, so I would definitely like to see it end back up in a corvette. Even more amazing is that this motor appears to have never been broken into, and even has the original head bolts, timing chain cover, oil filter canister, fuel pump, and oil pan installed. The only non-original items are the intake manifold, carb, and distributor. The pad reads T0210IM 6115387, the casting number is 3869942 cast date is A 20 6, and the heads are dated L 2 5 and L 12 5. It will rotate by hand freely, but has not been run in over twenty years per the previous owner. I am asking $5500, and if you have any leads as to the owner of 1966 Vin#15387, I would be grateful.
Thanks,
Brian German

Close, but no cigar (for me). I sure wish you had my original engine... (serial #14,945)

In the late seventies, Ken and Gary Naber bought a theft recovery '66 coupe from an insurance company in Houston. It was a very nice black big block car with a saddle interior and factory air. I believe it still had black California plates on it. The engine had been removed in what I would describe as a surgical procedure. The "thief" didn't even lose the charge on the a.c. system. The body of the car wasn't harmed or stripped in any way. The hood was even re-installed after the engine was stolen.
Anyway, the Nabers put another big block in the coupe and sold it. They keep good records and could look up the VIN for you. Their number is (713) 664-5018.

How would this work??? If you find the original car was a theft recovery, would the new owner of the car have legal rights to the original engine??? Wasn't there a thread like this recently here on the forum ( C3 section ) where a gut had to give his Vette back to the original owner because that owner did NOT sell the car.

Does anyone have access to Carfax??? It seems like it would be possible to find the car somehow because if the car stil exists the it should be registerred somewhere.
P.S. My car was just 308 cars down the assembly line from the car in question. I wish someone would find my original block

Carfax is only good to 1985 and newer. It doesn't include all '85s. Also, I am not a lawyer, but since the engine has been sitting in a garage for more than 20yrs. I believe after seven years the law says it is his.

Re: FS...1966 427/390 HP (oldcorvetteclassic)
Oldcorvetteclassic, what you're talking about is the "statute of limitations" that applies to how long the Police have to solve a crime and charge a suspect in connection with the crime. The more serious the crime, the longer the statute of limitations, generally speaking. Now that we have the law lecture out of the way, :D , I wonder if there is a "staute of limitations" on stolen property or if once it's stolen and not recovered, it's considered stolen until recovered. Can you imagine? You put all of that work into a car, not knowing the engine was originally stolen, then someone comes along and identifies it as a stolen item. Since the engine is part of the car, do they impound the whole car and you have to pay to have the stolen engine removed and pay for the impound and storage fees? What a can of worms.

Whoa- close enough to be sisters. My IM car is #15521.
It's a trip changing spark plugs with all those hoses! Especially cramped in there w/PS, PB, AC and AIR. (My coupe is one of 23 with that combination of options).
