Default WTB - 15 X 6 American Racing Torque Thrust D magnesium wheels

Am looking for ORIGINAL 15 x 6 magnesium Torque Thrust D-spoke wheels by American Racing. These would have been made in the late 60's thru the 70's. Not interested in wheels that are pitted or damaged.

Default '66 vintage D wheels

Rex, the only real D's I have are made of aluminum. However, the Gueydan brothers in New Orleans have about 30 vintage D's in their collection and might have some made of magnesium.

If you decide to phone Jimmy or Rich, I suggest calling them at work: Gueydan Lumber in Metairie, LA.

How do you tell the difference between alum and mag ? Is there a certain marking ? I just bought a set that I know for sure are twenty plus years old removed from a 55 chevy.

If they have not been recently polished or never polished, they will be a dark gray in color and the material seems to a little porous. They will be considerably lighter than aluminum.

A single drop of white vinegar placed on an inconspicuous place on magnesium will bubble, whereas it will not on aluminum.

Thanks for the info. Mine are porous, looks like tiny air bubbles in the spoke sections. I thought they were all that way. I will have to check.
