I want around a 3.70 posi for my 62. I have the "pumpkin" but it has 4.56 gears in it and it needs a complete rebuild. Where can I get a rebuild kit and the gears I need or should I get a whole other rear? Any advice would help or if someone has parts for sale that would be great.

Does your current unit have a approx 1/4 inch spacer plate between the ring gear and the posi carrier? If not, you will have to get a 3-series posi unit to use 3.7 gears. What codes are on your current case and is it matched to your car? Is it important to have it matched? Do you want a posi unit in your car? Sounds like you might be better to trade/sell what you have for a new rebuilt unit. There are several places that specialize in setting these up and they have new posi units and gear available.
I'll have to check on the spacer. the rear end is at my buddy's shop. I don't care about #'s matching and the rear end is not from this car. I was surprised at how much a new or used unit is going for that's why I wanted to try and rebuild this one. thanks for your input
Do you have or want a posi? Not too important unless you are racing or driving on a lot of wet or icy roads. Too bad you are so far away as I have some parts and rear end units that would probably work for you depending on your trans ratio. I am way out in WA state.
The 4.56's I have are a posi. The rear end that came in the car is a 2.83 diff. I want the posi for burn outs... My trans is a 1965 muncie M22 I think. I'm thinking my best course of action would be to have the 4.56 unit rebuilt with 3.73 gears. Thanks for all of your input.
