They might also cross refference to NTE replacement transistors.. Post the numbers of the diode's here and I will look it up for you. Might even have some here..

Kid -
Diodes are Sorensen part number AD2N and AD2P. About $10 each. NAPA sells the capacitor: Capacitor is part number RR187.

Kid -- I know you prefer to overhaul your own parts, however, there is a guy in Vineland who overhauls generators, alternators and starters and does absolutely terrific work. His name is John and the place is Eastern Generator, 308 Elmer Street, 856-692-1381. I think he overhauls the whole thing for about $70. He just overhauled the starter on my 1949 Farmall Super A and has done other work for me in the past. All excellent with no problems.

I bet the Kid has Farmall parts somewhere in one of those of those cars. I have changed diodes and it really is not a big deal but if you need bearings and there are issues with the armature or stator sometimes it is best to just let a pro do it.

I hate foolin with electrical stuff. Not a lot of room for error. It can be all to easy to have a "poof" followed by an Ahhhhh S_____T. Regular readers here know that if it were not for bad luck the Kid would have no luck so........

Also let me add. You can uprate alternators with a diode change. You can't get 140 amps out of an original 37 amp Plain Jane alternator but a "pro" can uprate and gain a few extra amps with only a substitution of the right diodes. Again no miracles here as far as the amount of increase but there is a "cheap lunch' if not a "free luch" in the selection of the right diodes.

...Oman, you got DAT right :lolg:

guys, thanks for all the help...just bought the correct diodes locally - thank you

...yeah, i will uprate the 37 amp versions to 63 amp - simple and cheap-enough to do...i can install the new front bearing with my press and i have ample time to fart around because i'm practicing on a spare alternator...now for the interesting part....the chassis overhaul manual says that the diodes are red or black (obvious pos. and neg. polarity)...so i push out my diodes and all 6 are freakin' green - no red, no black, no nuthin'...this is the alternator that came with my '66 (incorrect date) but i wonder how in the hell it ever charged a battery

..john, the reason why i do this myself is that the alternator on the bb has a damaged case and i want to disassemble it and powder coat the case for cosmetic reasons - since the powder coat needs to cure at ~400*, i needed to completely tear the alternator apart....WHY I do these things is BEYOND me :banghead: ...the next project is to powder coat the big block headers - and then we powder coat VNV :D

...NOW I have this picture in my mind of VNV wrapped in a towel with these funky goggles on, being hosed down with hugger orange powder coat applied by some guy in a moon suit..i dunno, maybe i'm confusing him with michael jackson...not sure :skep:

Do to the polarity for coating, I heard they were going to charge $10 a hour to watch a clown rub him down with baloon animals.
