Mecom- I was going to comment on that too... I saw it last night. Kinda funny, after you started talking about your project, I looked through some archives researching Grand Sport replicas from some of John's posts, and now I am having dreams of grand sports. I am totally obsessed with that beautifull car!
On a second note, the new owner put those different wheels on it, and I got to tell ya, I think he ruined it with such low profile tires. I really like the original wheels and tires that John had on it. Does that have different exhaust too?
I hope you post a ton of pics as you build your car!!!!!

I know the feeling. The only cure is to get one. :yesnod:
The original wheels, tires and sidepipes are still with the seller. They'll probably be included with the car so you could make it look retro again. There's definately and 'old school' and 'new school' approach to the wheels and tires but I have to say, the only thing that bothers me about the wheels is on that car is the matching colored centers - ick! The car should definately be lowered to tighten up the look.
I'm a bit more 'new school' due to my experience with modified 4th-gen Camaros (I sold my 475hp 2000 Camaro SS to get my GS). My car will be getting 17" wheels and modern rubber with a lower pro-touring stance.

I have to agree, the short tires are really not right in the rear wheel wells. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see what it ends up going for. At anything near the current price it is a real steal.
It's also quite a compliment to John that the best "advertizing" he gives for it is that John built it.

I think I will be keeping an eye on this auction... Being a "no reserve" auction, this should be very interesting... and, if the price is right, I would even be willing to jump into the fray... :yesnod: ;)

They look like Compomotive Cobra wheels; I had the same wheels on the last Cobra I built, but in the original 15" size.

John,
Did you know the guy who purchased this from you was going to turn it around so quickly. I can't wait to see what the car goes for, considering it's pedigree (and yours :D ). You did an outstanding job with that car. I'm guessing you're a Mech Eng by training. If so, you had my dream career (I ended up with my second-best choice - submarine weapon launcher systems).

Same reason John sold it.
Needs, wants & desires change.
There no fun when there finished anyway.
Everyone knows that...... You dont know it, but the most fun is when
your right in the middle of it, pulling your hair out.
When the work turns into just "maintenence issues", its over.
The"396 RAT" will never be finished.
Just a fun way to pass time, tinker and haul AZZ.
spelled tinker wrong, had to modify.....

Hey John,

Not Me..Rat Man....Would not mind chaning the oil in that baby or doing Tune ups. More fun to drive em.. then pull your hair out working on them.
I got enough stuff to do on the other cars..don't need another project to keep me busy.
DO you think I want to end up like KId_Again ripen his car apart just for fun..
rebuilding this and rebuilding that....Not Me... Like Bluestripe 67 says......

Yup, I'm a (perfectionist) Mechanical Engineer; I built the car in 1995-96, drove it for two years, and sold it in 1998 (needed the garage space to finish the body-off on my '57 - if I had the garage space then I have now, I'd still have it today). Here are a few pics of what it looked like when I sold it - the buyer changed the wheels and tires, exhaust, painted the clear headlight covers, put messy plug wires and the funky air cleaner on it, swapped the Muncie for a Richmond, and added the whizbang stereo.

Ok, so which one of you is going to do the right thing, step up to the plate, buy the car, and "restore" it  ??
John, what mufflers did you run in the sidepipes? Are those 4" tubes?

John, Did you paint the numbers on? So did he paint over the numbers or repaint the whole car? $10k stereo?? I don't think his mods "enhanced" the car. MJ
