Mark - you can still buy a corvette jack and handle for the car from chevrolet. It is an updated version of the original jack. It is heavier and you can actually jack the car up with it. It fits in the same place the original went although it is a little tighter. You are welcome to borrow the extra one I have for the trip if you wish.
Of course a bottle jack as someone suggested will also work just fine.

I carry a small hydraulic bottle jack in the '62. I made a small (about 4" x 4") square steel plate, 1/4" thick, added a short stud on the bottom center and tapped the head of the jack so I could screw on the plate for added surface area. Also padded the top with some 1/8" thick rubber gasket material to prevent damage to the surface of whatever you might be jacking against.

I use a scissor jack for my 65 coupe. It is more stable than the bottle jack.

I carry a tiny floor jack. My car is so low, its about all that will work.
I am a hard top only, so I have room for the spare and this Jack
behind the seats. Dont have an orig jack anymore.... :nonod:
But do feel better/safer about this one...

I am using a small scissors jack purchased at O'Reilley's for about $12. Not sure but it may be an AC Delco. Lays in the compartment OK. The holddown springs, etc. for my car are nowhere to be found.
Good luck on that trip!

I bought some small floor jacks as well. I did not even take them out of the box. Just leave them in there for easy, noiseless stowage. I bought them at K-Mark for $19.99 each. I keep one in my truck along with a 4"x4"x8" block of wood for what ever comes along. The factory jacks work but the ones I have used take forever to operate. A cheap breaker bar, and extension, and a 3/4" socket are a good idea as well.
My luck holds that if I were to have a flat it would be during rush hour on the busiest road with a narrow edge.

I have a new original type for in the car. It has never been used, but always use a 2 1/2 ton floor jack in the garage.
