I know you hate to answer this, but....
A friend has come to me and asked what the fair market price is for his '63 300 hp, automatic, SWC.
First the good stuff: Same owner since 1965, Original California car, Correct silver on black, Excellent paint/interior, Correct hubcaps, ignition shielding, exhaust etc. Car has had a very good, well maintained life, shows and drives terrific, everything works.
Now the not so good stuff: Not the original 327, he had the original motor rebuilt way back when it wasn't that critical to keep the correct block. Something went wrong with his block during the boring process, so they just replaced it with another 327 block. Has a turbo 350, but interior appearance is still correct. Has 6 tail lights, no other body alterations, no power options.
I don't have pictures to post at this time, but I may be posting the car for sale here if I can come up with a realistic number.
Thanks gang, Greg

He seemed to think the car was worth 30-35k. I thought this sounded a little high. Maybe he's comparing his idea of an original SWC to a correct SWC. The low 20's sounds light to me though as the car shows so well. I'm not sure if he has a correct date code block in the car. If he does it would be worth restamping and reinstalling the two speed. Yes?

The mitigating factor here is not that the car isn't nice..... its an automatic.... That alone depreciates the car about $5k to $8k..... just my .02..... :D

Some CA cars came from the factory with 6 tail lights - they are rare ($$), but most were copycats that devalue the car. I like the look either way.

I have been looking for SWC for years and keeping close tabs on the prices. I finally found one and bought it, and its in fairly good condition, but the enginewas modified, but still has matching numbers, to be a 327/340 HP it should be a 327/300 HP. So after reading and talking to NCRS folks, the SWC you described does not have the original engine which takes a lot of the value away, and appears maybe a body mod was done. My price would be no more then 23K, as it would take you over 10 grand to get it back into shape, but never have matching numbers.
Regardless, its a SWC...

Thanks guys,
Valid input all around as usual. I appreciate the info and I'll pass it along. Maybe tell him to list at something like 27k wiyh a big "OBO" after it. If he gets realistic, I'll post the car here.
