Default ID of 67 big block 435 HP engine

I posted this on the correct resto board and thought this board may help to.

Need to ID a 67 big block engine I found for sale that is in a speed boat. Some of the #s I got off the block do not make sense, Need help.
Engine info-Block cast # 3955272 Date cast # K16 Pad info- T1203JA--177322380. The two sevens (7) are upside down. Here is the problem I can not solve. Cast date is late 1966 and serial #says it is a late 67 435 HP corvette. What am I missing here?
Thanks
Billy

Its not a corvette engine and there is nothing there that indicates it.

not a vette and not a 67 motor, look at your date again, are you sure that it says K16,this block was used as a 396/402 from 1967 to 1972

The casting number "272" was not used for any Corvette BB from 65 to 74. Chuck

The "272" block was used only for '68-'72 396 and 402 applications in Passenger, Camaro, Chevelle, Nova, and trucks; this one originally was a 396/325hp from a Chevelle or El Camino.

JA is also for a 325hp 396 chevelle in 1969 and since that is when the "272" was used I would lean more that direction.A 325hp motor is going to be a 2 bolt main motor and a 1967 435hp is a 4 bolt casting number usually"351"

something here does not make sense, the casting date vs the casting # do not jive. just look at the plugs above the oil filter boss, the 4 bolt would have 2 pipe plugs,1 is a 1/2" NTP thread which the 2 bolt block would not have. :chevy

I do not beleive that he has the complete build date as he posted K16 and not K 1 6,better chance that if it is K16 the 6 is probably an 8 which only makes sense because this block was used 1968-1972

Thanks for all the debate on this engine. I will take a closer look at the #s again next week but I am sure of the #s I posted and had to take a double take because of the JA on the pad. The cast date may be an 8 but if it is it a poor 8. Looks like an 6. I will look for the characteristics of the block as stated and put this thing to bed. Thanks again guys.

Provette
You are right about the 6 It does look like it could be an 8 and this makes it a nice boat anchor in my opinion. Thanks for all the info.
