"It" What is the definition of "IT"?, I dont know, ask Bill Clinton. Maybe he found it while he was looking up IS. If you are refering to the name "corvette", well that was just picked out of the dictionary. It is a fast warship with one row of guns.

{"IT"} if it`s on a 427, means a true L88 block Stamped on the engine pad in front of #2 cylinder.

Maybe it meant "Little Tiny", as in small-block!
Dunno what they mean, but LT1 is just an engine package code, like L79 for mine. There are also handling option codes that start with F, like F41. Then more general option packages with Z, like Z06 and Z28. I doubt if any of these are really abbreviations for anything.

IT is also on the back of an original L88 valve cover.
Where I work - IT means Information Transfer - as in "Those IT people never finish their projects on time and under budget" -

Sorry, I mean "LT". Should have used the caps to make 'it' obvious. I know of the different LT designations for engines but was curious if 'it' (LT) ever stood for two words at one point. You know, like T&A... 'IT's' no biggie. :D

Nope - each Chevrolet option category has always had a specific first letter prefix just to keep the releasing system straight ("A" for body-related interior stuff, "B" for body exterior, "C" for heater/air conditioning, "D" for mirrors and paint stripes, "F" for suspension, "G" for axles, "J" for brakes, "L" for engines, "M" for transmissions, "N" for steering, "P" for wheels, "U" for radios, "Z" for special performance packages, etc.

Yup - prior to '63, options just had numbers, with an FOA (Factory Optional Accessory) or RPO (Regular Production Option) or LPO (Limited Production Option) prefix. The letter-code prefixes with numbers following started in '63, and "RPO" applied to everything.
