I pulled the transmission last weekend to inspect my clutch & PP. I need a new assembly but I don't know of a good brand-name to use. I have a 67 coupe with a 327/300hp/4speed/3.70 rear. I would like to get a strong assembly for occasional drag use, BUT my wife also needs to be able to push the clutch pedal. Does anyone know of a selection that will work for both?
I have heard of a name xxxxx force but I'm not sure of this. Any ideas would be great. Thanx.

I have used the Centerforce Dual Friction several times with good luck. The pedal effort is very low and it holds great. I have an 11" one behind the 540" motor and ran it two years after using it for 3.5 years behind the 427. It still looks almost new. Folks keep telling me it will slip eventually as I approach 800 hp, but on slicks so far everything else has broken behind it!

A buddy has the 10.5" version in his '65 behind a nasty little 350. The pedal effort is unbelievably easy and it has yet to slip either. It will be getting a 550 hp 383 soon and we intend to reuse it.

I can tell you pedal pressure even on my 11" one is WAY less than my 5.0 Mustang with the Motorsport upgrade street clutch. My wife drives mine with no issues.

The only trick to Centerforce installation is to pay real close attention to the measurements they give for throwout bearing positioning. Depending on several issues, it often takes an adjustable pivot stud ($10-15) to make it work right. But it will outlive you behind a relatively mild motor even with trips to the track.

I put the CF II (not the dual friction) in mine using the CF throw-out brng also. No issues, easy pedal pressue. Did not measure anything, just put it in as you would a stocker. :steering:

yup, CFII for me, easy to use, PITA for me to install but a great clutch...others have not had anywhere near the problems i did, though

I put in a complete Hays kit (from Jegs) a year ago. No problems in a year of street driving -- stoplight-to-stoplight, a lot of launches and shifting. I haven't even had to readjust the pedal free play, so it's holding up well.

I am in the process of putting a new clutch in my 63 SWC 327/300 and I just purchased the Luk from CA. It comes complete with disk, pressure plate, bearing and alighment tool. You don't need to go the more expensive route, unless your keeping you foot in it all the time. The Luk will serve you well for many a mile...... and my wife has no problem pushing in the clutch... just my .02.... :smash: :smash: :smash:

CFII on my 427 also. :thumbs: We (CCC) installed it last fall with no problems. Also installed a roller pilot bearing and the adjustable pivot ball advised by 427HotRod, so the fork was a slam-dunk. The unit it replaced was a Luk, and it was in pretty good shape, but it was slipping badly. The CFII has been trouble free and never lets go under any load thus far, including a couple of 3k drops.... :D :eek: :steering: Its a great value, IMHO!!

A vote for McLeod clutches also. They are fine tuned to the application and mine is about as easy on the leg as the Centerforce one I had before it. :flag

Center force dual friction in mine. Great setup in my opinion. :thumbs:

Get the adjustable clutch fork pivot ball if you go this route. :yesnod:

I have about 180 miles on a CF II I bought instead of a GM unit based mostly upon opinions I read on this forum. It works great, moderate pedal effort coupled with what feels to be a great deal of clamping force.

You notice that an adjustable pivot is recommende by some. I had a lot of trouble with CF and the adjustable pivot made put the TO fork into the glass floor. Removed CF in favor of rebuilt GM with a Bellville (diaphram) spring in the cover - which is easier on the leg and the budget, and installs like the factory manual says it does.
