DZAUTO Yoke questions
Hello Tom,
Can you tell me where I can source a new or used yoke for a C3 corvette? My son's 74 corvette which has matching VIN transmission needs either re-sleeved yoke or replace it. This is supposed to be a M21 but I think the tail shaft is out of M22. The OD for the bushing is 2.020. The base of the yoke measured 1.985 or something around that. I know it will need a new seal and bushing. Does that sound like this is a M21 or M22 rear tail shaft? O(r is it just 1974 corvettes used a heaver diameter yoke? I just want to make sure I get the right part or if I can get away with just sleeving it... I guess the other option is to take it to a machine shop and build it up back to the correct specs since the base of the yoke is the correct OD. I know the bushing or bearing had GM F-11 on the outside.
Sorry, I wrote this thread in C1/C2 but I figured it would be the best way to get Tom's response than to send a PM.

I don’t recall there being any difference in the M20, M21 and M22 main shafts for a given year. When I built my M22W a few years ago I reused my M20 main shaft with the new M22W gears, sliders, etc. A 70 and later Muncie has a 32 spline count for the yoke while earlier versions had a 27 spline count. I believe the 32 spline, later shaft is a bit larger in diameter at the yoke.

[QUOTE=jimh_1962;1607774599]Yep. I just want to figure out what to do with this one or find a good used one. You can see how much its worn down.

Yeah, but I need to know if the size is going to work. Also, I am not looking to spend 200.00 just to find out it will not work. I just want to verify the correct size and make sure its gonna work before paying out.

All 70's Corvettes except the 76-81 with the Turbo 350 used the same 31 spline slip yoke. The correct one is available from most if not all of the Corvette vendors.

Time to call Keen. I like those people. They brought parts to me when I was in a pinch at a corvette show in Chicago are (rosemont). That was years ago.

I have a used one I'll sell for $80 shipped in US.
Measures 1.884" around the barrel. There is a very light grove that can be felt that I suspect is from seal wear. Very hard to measure but I'd say no more than .002 deep.
