Default Mystery fiberglass part?

While going through my boxes of parts I got with my 59 barn find I ran across this fiberglass part and have no idea what it is. Anybody have a clue? It's 7 1/4 inches long by 4 inches wide and 1/2 inch deep.

That piece certainly looks like the bottom or floor piece for the glove box seat separator.

Many times that piece is missing from a unit that has been previously removed from the car.

Good find! Hang onto it. They are not reproduced to my knowledge and just that piece is very hard to find separate from the seat separator unit. I know, it was missing on my '60 and it took a long time to find and i had to pay a premium for it.

They all have it. It is glued to the top of the "hump", under the glovebox to provide a flat floor. Open your glovebox, and you won't be able to see the "round" driveshaft tunnel.

Thanks Terry! I'll look to see if it's there on my car.

Here a picture from the AIM. The bottom piece is highlighted in pink.

Mike is correct in that the bottom is glued to the floor, but I want to clarify that the separator unit has screw holes on the side flanges that screw to the bulkhead. You want to use those or may even adjust the holes a bit to get a nice gap between the top of the separator unit and the decklid. If you work from the bottom up, you may have a larger undesirable gap.

On my '60, there was a very thick remnant like a foam material that was underneath the bottom piece that effectively glued it to the tunnel hump.

pics of my 62 as I got it...the glovebox had been ripped out, for some unknown reason. You can see the original adhesive that was used to secure the bottom part to the tunnel. I used epoxy to put it all back together, along with the 10 (?) screws that hold the glovebox to the rear panel and tunnel

Default Mystery part

Terry,
You are correct, that is were it goes. Do you mind telling me what you had to pay for that piece when you bought it?
Thanks,
Ron

Ron,

It was 12 or 13 years ago when I bought it so my poor old memory thinks it was about $50 plus shipping. It just seemed a lot at that time when I could have bought a nearly complete beat up unit with the bottom in for $100-$125 at the time. But I didn't want to mess around with the unused parts so I just went with what I needed. It all worked out well.

Thanks Terry,
The reason I asked is my car has one already installed so I'll probably put this one up for sale. If you know anyone needing one let them know I have an extra one.
