suction cup application to windshield
Basic task I know, but I cleaned the windshield and then wiped it down with alcohol followed with a clean rag. Cleaned the vinyl suction cup in the same manor. Installed it on the windshield, and came back out the next morning and the backup camera was lying on the floor. Repeated the operation and got repeated results.
Anyone have a good method to do this?
Thanks,
Ron

Don't laugh...lick the suction cup and then stick it back on the windshield. My $$$ says it will stay where you put it

put a 'little' vegetable oil on it with a paper towel...

Maybe something from here would help you out.

PLEASE NOTE: Pump suctions are best suited for short term use and frequent repositioning. Pump suctions may need to be re-pumped every few days to maintain a secure hold but will provide a more reliable grip for short term daily use.
I may have to BUBBA it and use magnets and a homemade bracket.

If you install the suction cup in your cool garage or shade and then drive or park in the sunshine, the remaining air under the suction cup will expand and pop it off. If you warm up the suction cup with hot water before you stick it on the windshield, the cooler temperature will contract and hold the cup tighter for longer. That's why you see suction cup holders like on a gps, or phone holder, etc. laying on your dash or floor after you park in the hot sun.

Yes, that will work UNTIL the heat of the sun rises on the windshield and it will again fall off----About every month or so I have to re-lick it and re-attach. Good again for another month.
Of course, I live in SUNNY AZ. Other states may vary!
Better than nothing!

You guys need to install the simple " Anti-Gravity Device" used for this exact application......
I worked on the road, and had a Garmin unit stuck to the windshield, which I used daily for years. On many occasions of bright sunny days, I would come back to find it laying on the console or dash....I finally came up with the ingenious idea of interlocking 2 rubber bands together (or a real long one would work too) , hook one end around the unit, and the other to where the sun visor clips in place. Sure it would unstick from the glass sometimes, but it would always be hanging right there undamaged and waiting for another good licking...!!!

My dash cam uses 3M double sided adhesive tape attached to a piece of static electricity film. Works great and is easy to remove if required.
One of these cut in half works great.

Well, I wet it and left it overnight and it was still tight this morning, but what Jack says makes sense and I think Factoid's static vinyl may be a good answer too, but I have 3 rolls of double sided tape that seem to melt in the sun. I also am working on a magnetic mount which works, but I need stronger magnets as the chrome has thin tin under it.
This is a Dash Cam with an interior camera and Backup Cam and DVR, etc. It really has it all, but the controls are barely larger than my finger and it is a challenge to try to program.
There is nothing like a good mechanical connection with screws / bolts / rivets, etc.
