1967 Muncie Transmission - Shifter Is Hard To Get Out Of Reverse
As you can see in the video below, the shifter can easily go into reverse but won't come out of reverse without lifting up on the shifter as shown in the video below. In fact, you can hear the moment the shifter goes into neutral. This happens whether the engine is running or not running. I've looked in the Chassis Service Manual but do not see anything that mentions this issue (I could have possibly missed it). What's going on? What do I need to do to fix/resolve this?
As you can see in the pictures below I do not have a T handle with a set screw design.

Loosen the ball about three rounds if it works well then file a little bit off the bottom end of that rod. Looks like the rod’s hanging up on the gate below.

Good chance its you reverse release.
However, your shifter linkage might need adjusted...
My 67, I could not get it out of reverse unless I hit it with my hand!!!
I ended up adjusting my shifter linkage with a gauge........Worked perfectly for me.....
There are links to the proceedure...
Good Luck!

shine a light down the shifter shaft and see if something has broken off and hanging in that slot.

Yes, that's the tip of the long rod from the t handle that you circled. It may have a broken piece in there. I sent another picture, but apparently I didn't complete it. I'll try to attach here. With the rod out, that space should be empty. OR, this piece could be bent or loose:

Aren't there supposed to be plastic shims in the t-handle so it moves up and down easier or doe the 67 not use them, my 66 has them...

The latest Video without he ball/tee makes it clearer you have bigger problems...i think the shaft is coming out of the shifter..where it passes through into the body of shifter...

I have a tranny specialist that I called last night. Had to leave a message for him. Not sure if his health will allow him to help me or not; my fingers are crossed. In the meantime, what can ***I*** do? What's the best course of action that I can take until I hear back from my tranny specialist?

Time to take the console out, shift boot off...you can look from there and see where it actually 'snaps' back up to get it out of reverse...look under where 65ggvert told you to look and have some one work the shifter and see what you can make out from down there. this way you'd have more information to tell him whats happening.
EDIT:
This is what i did in post #6 was spot weld to keep from rattling...but, this will show you where is was talking about in the picture...the pin below might have shifted?

If you'd rather take it to a transmission specialist than look while someone tries to get it out of reverse, then money is not a consideration and would be more convenient for you. You'll have to take their word for what is wrong and what it takes to fix it.

My car's mechanic came over yesterday afternoon, played around with it, said my shifter plates or gates are not where they should be, and then suggested that we adjust the shifter linkage as dcamick and others have suggested.

I went to one of my neighboring businesses and had them cut from some 22 gauge sheet metal a long piece that will eventually become the tool I need to adjust the shifter linkage. Obviously I'll have extra so if anyone else needs some just let me know.
