Paint Job Info (cost/time) 1964 Convertible
Always see people asking about cost,,,,, here is 384 man hours labor (at whatever rate per hr), then sandpaper, tape, masking paper and plastic, glazing putty, sealer, primer, paint, clear, misc shop cost etc…. Then all new weatherstripping, window felts, gaskets for body parts (door handles, mirror, etc.) new emblems, buffing material and I am sure some other cost. So basically a paint job cost about as much as a car!!!!! LOL,,,,, but you have the satisfaction of knowing it’s done right!!!!

Scotty,
You know, its good to detail the cost and time to paint a car these days and it should help folks. Going rate seems to be easily $20k plus...Only criticism on this post (from me anyway), photos can make a paint job look good.

This truly represents what the hobby is all about! Good for you on taking that on.
I have done a handful now, and it definitely isn't an easy process.
Body and paint is not cheap, but I think those in the body and paint business (legit ones), truly do earn their money!

I very seriously doubt anyone is going to disassemble a car, prime it, seal it in white sealer, paint it, then color sand and buff in a legitimate paint booth ,,,,, and it not be a good paint job???? Look at the body lines of anything “painted “ and you will get a good idea of the “quality “ that is behind the picture. Thanks for letting me share a little more information as I had not really thought of your take on it.

Just your Paint related work: prep, materials, painting and reassembly is worth 20K minimum. Believe me!! I know!
For me, Its not about the cost, it's about doing it correctly to preserve the Corvette's history! Each C1/C2 Corvette has it's own journey!
Beautiful Color!

I didn't mean my comment as negative towards you and your work. I can imagine doing all the work yourself, and knowing what you are doing has ensured your final product is great. My comment was based on my experience and experience of others who have had cars totally blown apart and painted by so called professionals, just to find that the paint job is just good enough and then have to hassle with the painter to get it right. Its happened to me more than once. It seems that when it comes to a paint job the old adage "If you want something done right, do it yourself" really does hold true. My remark about looking good in pictures was a general statement that I think holds true; one can zoom in and see some things, but not like seeing it in person. Your paint work looks great and your car looks really nice, but I am sure pictures don't do your work justice. So no offence intended and I should have been clearer in my first post. God bless.
