First C2 getting the lay of the land
I picked up a stock 1966 triple black L79 last fall from a long time owner. The engine is going to need a rebuild, so I was planning to drop in a Blueprint 383 crate motor. The delivery date keeps getting pushed back on this spec, so now I'm toying with the idea of the Blueprint 427 SBC...I do have a 66 BB hood. I am getting conflicting info from Summit about whether it will fit with its taller intake. I see Factoid has a 427 in a 64, but can't message anyone yet. I would love to have an accurate answer so that I can pull the trigger before summer is here in Chicago.

Triple Black......Most excellent!! . Rebuilding the engine would be something I would do, regardless of the replacement.....Can I assume it is original to that beauty?
Welcome!

That engine fits under the 65/66 BB hood perfectly, but two caveats. My engine has Sniper EFI. The throttle body is supposedly the same height as a Holley carb but I never measured it. You will need a low profile air cleaner. Nothing extreme, just a drop base in order to use a 3” filter. Good luck, it is a wonderful engine!

One other point. Select your front pulleys and accessories carefully. The modern heads on the Blueprint engines are drilled and tapped for accessories unlike the oem heads, but the front crossmember will not have the crank pulley clearance for some aftermarket pulleys and set ups. I ended up cutting and welding a notch for my Eddie’s set up. You won’t have to do that if you chose carefully.

I agree with those who say to have the original engine rebuilt, but only if it's the engine that came in the car from the factory. If your beautiful car already has a replacement engine (nom), then the skies the limit. But, remember, they're only original once.
I don't worry about originality with my triple black 62, as the stamp pad info was machined off when the engine was overhauled at some time. But, the 66 is a different story, it has original engine, trans, rear end and such..........and it will stay that way.

Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate it.
Yes, original born with - numbers matching L79. The cam is starting to go and one rocker (kind of charred black)
That 4th rocker is uniquely different, not getting oil through the push rod, but we pulled it and it is clear...
on the passenger side is not getting oil, makes a ticking sound even after being tightened up.
I can either:
A. Rebuild what I have and run with it.
B. Yank this motor, store it. Replace with Blueprint 383 or 427.
Guys at both Summit and Blueprint are telling me that I need the low profile spec 383 to fit under the hood of a C2, but I have a BB hood...I didn't think low profile was needed. I can get a standard 383 shipped straight away, looks like I would now be waiting a while for the 427 as well.

Welcome, that beauty has a second in the passenger's seat that detracts from the car. But, perfect year car and a real beauty.
If you get it back together, Bloomington Gold is straight down RT66 in the first week of June, I think. Maybe see you all there.

I would further diagnoses the oiling problem and see if it can be fixed in the car. then source the correct L79 cam and lifter and check over everything else wear wise and keep that motor in the car

Numbers matching you say - I would yank that baby out and get it rebuilt. Now. And don't let them remove the stamped block numbers if they can avoid it.
When done this way - your ride will be worth more with the original rebuilt motor installed versus a different small block in the car & the original L79 (needing a rebuild) sitting on a stand.

Hi doublebdd, i have a blueprint 427 sbc i put in a couple years ago, runs fantastic and summit had it at the local trucking company in 2 days . I have the edelbrock rpm intake and a 850 quick fuel double pumper carb with the super low factory air cleaner and it fits under a stock small block hood.
