Default Four speed

I just put my four speed in car. I got first gear no second. I’m pretty sure it’s in the linkage.had both arms straight up in neutral. Need a little help.

Can you get it into 3rd and 4th?
What shifter do you have, original or a Hurst.
What did you use to align the levers?
Was the trans in neutral when you installed the shifter?

I can get it in first second and third but not second. It’s an original shifter. When I put leakage on trans I had it neutral.both shift arms were pointing straight up.

Not sure I understand what you are saying about 2nd gear in this sentence. The shifter has to be adjusted after installing to make sure that with the transmission shift arms are in neutral position, and the 3 shifter arms are also all in the neutral gate position so the shift lever will freely move laterally back and forth between the reverse, 1-2, and 3-4 gates. This is done with a gage piece that fits in a notch of the shifter body and corresponding notches in the shifter arms.

This thread shows the procedure.
