Can anyone tell me what this part is called? It's cast iron and attaches to the tie-rods and the from frame of my '61. For extra points, can anyone tell me where I might be able to find a replacement?

search by the casting number: 3742688 (that's how the part is listed in all of the old service parts books)
There are a couple on eBay.

You might also put a wanted ad here on the CF classifieds and on the NCRS forum if you're a member.

An inquiry to the seller would be in order to find out what the damage is - it might be fixable with a heli-coil.

Many thanks Donald and to all for your help! Part is now ordered thanks to your help, proving once again that bread doesn't always fall butter side down. Glad it broke while backing out of my garage rather than on the freeway.

There's a lot more stress on it driving out of your garage, than there is on the freeway. Which is a good thing!

You can make a jacking support either out of wood or steel similar to this to support the load is transferred to the crossmember. Makes servicing much easier

Not my car, it's a borrowed photo, but you get the idea.
