Possible purchase 1962 Corvette
I'm new to the Corvette Forum . I've been a "Gear Head for over 50 years. I ran across a 1962 Vette seemingly all original but a bit strange in some areas. Its a factory 3 Speed !!!! The motor is possibly a 250 HP 327 but not yet verified. The motor needs a complete rebuild but runs and smokes real badly, body is straight with a few cracks, paint (white) appears original. Soft top very old might be original and might go up, It has a rough condition hardtop hubcaps are like what we call "dog dish" it has power windows. Kind of an odd duck... Whats it worth???? .

A 250 HP 327, 3 speed, and soft top were standard. Take some pics...

The three-speed is easily replaceable with a 4-speed. That particular unit had an issue with the 2/3 synchronizer and it is next to impossible to find one new. Take that into account. No idea about the price. Pics would help.

As 65 hihp said, what does the seller want for it? I have found it good policy to not price other peoples cars or parts. Almost without exception, they have a price in mind. Start there. If they will not give you a price or it is not within the price range you have in mind, shake their hand, thank them and walk away. There are always exceptions to this but they normally don't apply to a base engine 3 speed car.

I have only one picture of it running and smoking, it's a 30 foot picture. I t looks decent but i've been told it is quite possibly all original just tired. The guy is asking 35K for it down from originally asking 40K It's 350 miles away from me so i plan to drive up and give it a really good look soon.

As described, the $35K number seems like a high water mark.
The engine and transmission can be taken care of fairly easily. The body cracks and paint can be minor issues or major headaches. Those and the usual questions about rust are what will drive the value of the car, I'd think. Also, documentation to show this really is an original untouched car will add some value.
