Default Electric Power Steering

Hello Members,

I am thinking to install electric power steering for my '59. Has anyone installed this type of upgrade and can share the performance of it? Thank you.

It’s the single best improvement I’ve ever made on a car. I put EPAS on my 60 and made it a whole different car. I really like the rheostat that controls amount of assist on the fly. Full ON (or less if you like) and full OFF for the highway (if you like). I personally set mine around halfway and it covers the whole range of my driving very well. I also like the underhood not showing anything changed. It's all under the dash.

Same for my '60 except I scrounged Prius parts to make mine.

I added EPAS as part of a total front end rebuild on my 62 (search for posts by me on the subject). As others say - great upgrade and the control is fantastic. I usually leave it just barely on then crank it up for parking, etc. With minor surgery, I converted the Temp control (no heater anyway) to the EPAS control - looks totally stock and very convenient to reach and adjust.

Ditto GG65vert. Did it myself on my 64 restomod. Was fairly easy. A little tougher perhaps because I have AC but was still able to fit under the dash.

Note that there are also controllers available that use a GPS receiver to input the speed component so the adjustment **** is not necessary.

I don’t want a GPS signal, controlling my steering.

Each to their own.

Sounds like a good idea. Will help reduce the HP drain on the engine. One less belt drive. What did you decide?

I went for the Steeroids. Easy all bolt on and very tight control.

I have EPS on both of my cars and love it. The unit I have in both has what EZ Steering calls "Speed Sensor" that connects between the speedometer and the speedometer cable. No potentiometer to deal with. It's a turn key replacement. My entire original steering is on my work bench. I even bought a very nice smaller diameter wheel from EZ.
