Default 2 questions for a new owner - muffler and tires

I would like a couple of opinions/thoughts on the two questions below for a new 1964 corvette owner - it's a driver and not a show/trailer queen (no harm intended).
1. I need to replace my mufflers in the very near future. Would you take it to a muffler shop or my local shop that works on classics?

2. I need to replace my tires and I have the knock offs which are in really good shape. Would you take it to the local Goodyear or should I see if the repair shop can do it? And that is, if Goodyear would do it. I just don't want my knock offs all beat up.
Thank you!

Regarding the muffler, I would get the car on a lift and do a thorough inspection of the exhaust system. Determine what you need and consider ordering parts from Corvette Central. Your local shop should be able to install them. Regarding your tires, I use a local shop that has experience in mounting tires on high end rims. I found them to be more careful than the run of the mill tire tech. Jerry

Use the tire shop that sells fancy rims. They have different equipment. If they have a bunch of mercs and bmw probably an good sign. Or go to the local meet up for cars and ask around. Ask the ferrari guys.

Thanks for the replies. Those weren't things I was thinking about and sounds like good ideas. Thank you.

Discount tire does an excellent job of mounting tires on the wheels, but install them yourself with a lead hammer.

I highly recommend Diamond Back tires.

I very recently went to my local tire shop and got Hankooks. The tire shop needed to order them from their warehouse but they came the next day. I watched carefully as they removed the bolt on knock offs, mounted the tires, and remounted the wheels on the car ( a 64 hardtop). There is always "one guy" who knows these "old" cars, and knows what/how to do it. But, just in case there was any questions, I printed off instructions from the internet to give him, if he needed them. He didn't need those. I was satisfied he knew what/how to do it, and have had no problem with the tires,
RE: mufflers, not yet on my '64, but on another "old" car I've got, again, I went to my local muffler shop, ordered Flowmasters, and watched while they installed them. No problems.

There are a few different mufflers but these are the mufflers I used. Be sure to recognize the offset inputs are different for left/right.

Here are the L/R Corvette Central mufflers:

If you happen to know of a tire store mechanic who you know for a an ironclad fact, knows all about Corvette KO installation, then I might turn the car over to him. Otherwise, never, ever let someone unknown to you remove and reinstall the KO wheels ( unless they are the recent bolt on, fake KO wheels). I put mine up on jackstands, remove the wheels/tires and put them in a trailer to take to the tire store. Then I install them myself. Been a lot of people who have regretted letting a stranger remove and install their KO wheels.

Just an FYI. The original mufflers came attached/welded to the headpipes. Many sell the reproduction original style.

You can also buy just the mufflers, and they are clamped onto the pipes.

A muffler shop (a good one!) could fit the mufflers better than a repair shop

a very good high line tire shop can mount and balance and align. That is what I would use; specialty shops NOT just a repair shop for these operations. Also buy the best RADIAL tires you can find
