Default A Couple of Questions

I am looking to repair/replace the clock on my 59 and don't know what I need to do.
Also how big of a job is it to replace the gas tank.
This is my first Vette and I am sure I will have more questions in the future.
Thanks in advance for any help or advise.

Can’t speak to the clock, but gas tank isn’t a big issue. My biggest problem when changing a C1 tank was stripping the fiberglass holes that hold the tank cover in place. I ended up using little metal c clips on the fiber glass edges so that I had good threads. Tank straps are somewhat stiff. Try not to bend as they are hard to straighten.

IIRC the clock is just a twist and remove thing (someone correct me if I am wrong). I went with a quartz replica as it was around the same price as a rebuild IIRC.

Default Quartz is the way.

I have replced the original clock by placing my right hand in back and apllying pressure while twisting with my left hand. Then I put it on the shelf in my garage. Installing the quatz allows me to tell what time it is while sitting in my 59. Some times newer is better.

Save yourself a lot of worry by replacing with a quartz clock. They look just like the original and you don't run the risk of mechanism sticking and draining your battery or worse. They even have the little f/s adjustment on the face, albeit in for appearance only. Around $160 bucks, example attached and never have to mess with it again. To remove the old clock, push in (toward the engine) on the rim and rotate counterclockwise just slightly, you'll barely even be able to tell it moved. That will align the tabs with the slots for removal and then the clocks pulls out the front. If it has not been out in a while, or ever, it may be hard to twist. I put my elbows in the passenger floor, then reached around back and grabbed the clock body with my right hand and pulled on the clock while pressing in and rotating with my left from the front. There is a spring ring the size of the clock circumference that holds it tight against the console and you have to overcome that tension when you push in. It's important to understand that it only takes a slight rotation, it doesn't "unscrew". Pull out the bulb socket and disconnect the 12v lead, attach them to the new clock and put the clock back in the hole at a slight rotation counterclockwise like the old one came out and push in and rotate slightly clockwise to make 12 at 12 position. You'll find afterward that your battery won't run down nearly as quick as it did with the old clock if it sits a while.

I agree with 65GGvert, install a quartz and be done with it. Mine has been in the car 8 years and runs flawlessly.
