Default L-79 front shocks choice?

I have a 66 rag top with 327/350 HP. The car has a TRW HD rear mono spring and all new stock suspension. For the rear I was going to use the QA1 double adjustable rear shocks that others have suggested for use rear mono springs. I need to rebuild the front suspension this winter while my car is sleeping, install new a-arm bushings and new 460# front springs from Top Flight.MY Question: For the front shocks my choice is QA1 stocker star, entry level or the Billstein B6 sports. This is a standard front suspension set up. What does those who have used these shocks have to say about this application for normal street driving and sport driving on some curvy open roads here in the Ohio back roads. Open to other shock options as well. Bilstein's are 200.00 pair, the QA! are 300.00 for the pair. Thanks Big-K

I really like Bilstein's. Put them on all four corners of my 66 and have be very happy.

I use Bilsteins on all four corners. I went with the HS series instead of the Sports. The Sports are a little too firm and may be best for racing. Others may chime in. Jerry

I have the same Bilsteins as Jerry and for the same reason and also have a composite rear leaf spring. All have been on for 20 years or so.

Correction, the Bilsteins are HD not HS. Jerry

If you go with Bilsteins, you definitely want to use the Heavy Duty version, which is made for street use. The Sports version is for use on a track; on the street they ride like they're filled with concrete. I've had the HDs on my 67 for 20+ years for street and autocross driving. A mechanic friend once put Sports on my car just for me to try them out, which is why I know they ride so hard.

You could save a bunch of money and install AC Delco (Monroe) gas shocks. About $75 pair front or rear. For the type of driving you describe, you don't need QA1 shocks...or any other high end shock absorber.

What is the spring rate of TRW HD rear mono spring you are using. That will have a lot to do with it. 360lb?
