Default For Those Who Have Installed a TKX . . .

. . . will the original shifter boot work? - or do I need something custom? Also, does the ash tray still fit? Thanks!

Tom

My boot is below the two bolts and my ashtray doesn't fit. I am betting the original body spacers/shims (?) are causing it because they aren't as thick as new. I just drive and enjoy it like it is.

If you want it to be stock appearing , you need the offset shifter.

Thanks Ryan! I'll want a boot that covers the 2 bolts that secure the shifter handle to the shifter mechanism . . . guess I'll need something "custom", or I may use the one I currently have on my car!

Not sure who you used for the boot Tom but it looks similar to mine with the exception on blue stitching on black leather. Got mine from an overseas vendor, fair price, nice workmanship.

You have to keep up informed as to how the TKX install goes, your giving me evil ideas.

Happy New Year, Paul,

That boot was an ebay find 10 years ago when I installed my current 5 speed! I'm collecting all of the parts I need for the TKX swap . . . I have all of the parts now except the TXK transmission itself. I plan to order that within 30 days and will make the swap in early March in my buddies home shop (he has a lift!) with my "crew". I'll likely do a post @ the whole experience!

I used my stock shifter boot when I installed my Silver Sport TKX 5 Speed. My ash tray also fit without any modifications.
